Another C5 saved from the scrapheap
« on: 22, September, 2012 - 17:30:18 »
Quick story.  A colleague of mine was walking past his local car dealership with his dog last Sunday morning. Noticing a sorry looking C5 had been put out for 'scrap', he made a mental note and told me at work the very next day. "You want to make the car dealer an offer on that", he said, so I went to look at it yesterday and the deal was done.
After work today I went to get it, wrapping it up and straight in the back of the car. Got it home and the following shots tell the story. Another C5 saved from the scrapheap. It needs just about everything replacing because just about everything's missing. It scrubbed up okay, but there's a lot of flaking and crazed paint to sort.

We have to rebuild it and keep as many C5's going as possible, although now I've got it home and had a good look at it, I'm amazed what little is left on this one. In your experience, what do you think it will cost in time and money to roll once more?

As I'm asking, it's almost a case of "how long's a piece of string?"

As there's little of the drivetrain left, why not have a go at rebuilding it into a 24V one?  ;)

I already have a 24V and as this one's for the Mrs I can't have her out performing me, she's only getting 12V.

I can't get access to the photo's for some reason - assuming you don't have a pod or control box - you could wire like Karl did the Brooklands one's ie straight of a relay - That would keep the cost right down  :) :) :)

Could always make a limiter for it ;)

Just got into the  photo's - that's come up really well bud - I would keep an eye on e-bay and build it up slowly when bits come up at the right price - or build a project vehicle - you could always use this as a control box :

It's looking good already. I'm keeping an eye out for a cheap one myself to try and repair. I'm not touching mine as radio Marty did such a great job fixing mine  :)
