Boot lock?
« on: 31, December, 2012 - 16:13:31 »
I was a bit surprised to read about people having trouble obtaining boot locks. I needed one for mine, went to the local locksmith after measuring the hole, and £9 later came away with a barrel lock with bevelled cam. Fits perfectly, and for most locksmiths is a standard stock item... it keeps the boot shut too! So why does everyone else seem to have problems with this part??

The best solutions are usually the easiest lol  :)

I bought a rear bicycle brake cable yesterday that works perfectly on the back brake of the C5... I'm still convinced that they wouldn't have gone to the trouble of having the indicator lenses specially made too... I'm still working on that one, but I'll bet that they're off of something obscure that nobody remembers...

I had to get a headlight and  front indicator once for an old 80's coach(!) and it turned out they'd used one's from a Mk 3 Cortina, so I'm going to be looking at a lot of old car photos before I rush and buy a set lol!!

I know a front indicator off of a Land Rover Defender looks the same as the front indicator on a C5.

That would be another easy solution for a front indicator for a c5

Land Rover would make sense in a way, I also got told a Mk1 Mini...

Designers back then we're lazy, and even Lotus used some Ford parts so I'm going to look into this. Have you got the indicators on yours? Anyone know if the lenses have any markings on them at all?

  • 4 legs may be better than 2 but 3 wheels better then anything!

Previous posts said indicators were unmarked.

Landrover defender ones ad E marked (I used these for an IVA test on a car I built)

It's interesting, from what I've read there are a lot of other indicators that fit the front, but none the back?? They've got an interesting shape but nobody's ever found a match?? Put this in perspective, an 80' s Lotus Esprit used door handles from a Morris Marina. Everything back then was dine the cheapest possible way and I honestly refuse to believe that (especially as he was a businessman!) Sir Clive didn't source a cheap supply for the lights instead of going to the expense of designing them from scratch  ::)

Mine has indicators. The land rover ones are marked but I don't think they are that noticeable.

some want to keep the Sinclair originality , hence the desire to find genuine boot locks

we've know about alternative locks for quite a while  ;)

Hi there regarding the rear indicators I think you will find they where made for the C5 and You will not find them on any other vehicle ...

But please keep looking ...
Bye Chas

It would be interesting if the rear indicators were on another vehicle. I doubt it though but it is worth looking
