I've spoken with the organisor for this event and he has asked me to pass on that there will also be a fun event for us to take part in if we want to.

Racing the small kiddies micro-scooters that you scoot along... ;D

So you've now got enough time to ;

1) source your trusty steed. Something similar to this will do;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clear-Original-Razor-Pro-Model-Push-Kick-Scooter_W0QQitemZ200364134384QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea6a20ff0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1688%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

2) learn how to ride it at maximum velocity

3) work out some devious strategy for ensuring a convincing victory

See you at the start line .... ;D

Thinking of coming along to this one as i like Brooklands, and enjoyed the last show ( plus we wouldn't have to leave early this time  ;D )

Regarding the test track  : Did i read somewhere that all C5'ers had to have cycle helmets if they wanted a go, or have i got that wrong ?

'fraid so mate, all those riding on the track ,including the cyclists, have to wear a "brain bucket" - insurance requirement I guess and something M-Benz insist on ( ..and it is their track). :)

Unlike the cyclists though, the C5's are allowed to venture onto the skid pan  ;D 8)

I'd like to attend this as i couldn't go last year due to having not finished rebuilding mine in time. I'm off to Argos for a bash hat, £9.99, bargain !!
As for the kiddie scooter, i could have got a freebie on Monday morning as i nearly ran over one laying in the road.
I lobbed it in someones garden instead.  ;D

It will be good if we could get a large number of C5's there - maybe even outnumber the Raleigh Choppers ?

Putting on a good display would also help raise the profile of the planned "C5-25" event

Plus Project C5 will be hopefully restoring C5 honour by whizzing up the Test Hill  ;D

Have marked this one down on the calender  ;D

If i get round to it, you might even see your old bodyshell Karl, although it looks a bit different now  :)

I'll have to check out cycle helmets, as having a blast on a skid pan sounds like loads of fun  :D ;D :D

..I had loads of fun on the skid pan last year,  although I did trash a rear wheel  :o

This really is a "premier" event and definitely one to go for . Where else will you get to see cycle racing ,both ancient and modern, plus Raleigh chopper racing, postmen racing and our own Sinclair's on the track and access to the skid pan.

Plus there is still the Brooklands site to explore,  something to keep the family entertained while you enjoy yourself.

And ,like all our events, it is free entry.

I don't know of any other owners clubs or forum (Sinclair or otherwise) that manages this.

So if you only get chance to go to one Sinclair C5 / C5alive event this year then this should be the one !

I will be coming along to this one and as its only about five weeks away, its not far off, see you then and looking forward to seeing some new members, should be a another good one  :)

Ray - I've made a note to bring some decals along  ;), as Andy said - they are a closer colour match than the last ones and I think the quality has improved as well.

C5martin has said he will be coming to this event, but unfortunately it is unlikely Adam will be able to attend .

Nearer the time I will need to ask for names of those wanting to go to make sure I get the correct number of tickets.

Brooklands don't seem to have made up any advertising posters for this event .....so I think we should make our own.

Some really good ideas were put forward for the c5-25 event,so if anyone can come up with a similar good poster for this event I'll print some off and put them up at my local bike shop,newsagents etc.

The more people there to cheer us on the better , especially on the Mercedes Track and the Test Hill 8)

Jordan has put together an advert for this event, I've emailed it to a couple of you .

If anyone else wants a copy and is able to put it up at work,local newsagents etc let me know and I'll forward one on to you.

I'll be asking for a list of those wanting to attend soon so that I know how many tickets to ask for.

Not long now, you can feel the tension building ......

Is Andy going to triumph again on the track, or is there a faster c5 rider waiting in the wings ??

Will Ray go the furthest up Test Hill ??

Last years records are there waiting to be beaten  ;D 8) :D

Dont forget you will need bicycle crash helmets ...and a microscooter !!

Could I please now have the names of those wanting to attend

I will be contacting the event organisers again on Monday to tell them how many tickets we require.

Same as last year, a few things to note ;

The tickets will permit free entry to the person bringing along a c5 plus 1 additional person. I will be there handing them out at the entrance on the day.

You will need a cycle helmet before being allowed onto the track.

You will also have to sign a "terms and conditions" form before being allowed on the track. This will be done on the day. Note that there is a signing on time of 9am

The schedule for the day has been published on the Brooklands site;
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/events/details/2009/09/20/

As always this is subject to last minute changes and should be treated as a rough guide  :)

It looks as though we will be attempting the hill climb some time after 11am, and not venturing onto the track until after 3pm. Apologies to all those travelling from further afield as this will mean a slightly longer day than anticipated. On the bright side, it gives everyone more time to explore the fantastic museum site, have a good chat and spend money with Adam  ;D.

The children's micro-scooter race will be around noon , with the adult version of the scooter race to follow on afterwards. Each child arriving with such a scooter should also get free entry (not yet confirmed).

To summarise, free entrance tickets are available to those bringing along a c5 but I need to know how many tickets are required so please let me know before Monday if you want to come along.

Lastly, if you've any questions - just ask  8)

I've spoken with the organisor for this event and he has asked me to pass on that there will also be a fun event for us to take part in if we want to.

Racing the small kiddies micro-scooters that you scoot along... ;D

So you've now got enough time to ;

1) source your trusty steed. Something similar to this will do;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clear-Original-Razor-Pro-Model-Push-Kick-Scooter_W0QQitemZ200364134384QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea6a20ff0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1688%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

2) learn how to ride it at maximum velocity

3) work out some devious strategy for ensuring a convincing victory

See you at the start line .... ;D

I've got my trusty steed for the scooter race;

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i257/1stbooboo/scooter.jpg)

...brand new , "09" plate  ;D, from ebay

..see you on the start line  8) :D

Hi Karl - what time are we planning on meeting at Brooklands ? I think last time I was on the wrong side for car parking ?? Will we be able to get in with our cars to unload ?

Matts rusty old scooter has been dusted off and I have been jogging around the canteen at work so beware all those scooter challengers !!!!!!!!!

All the tickets for this Brooklands event have arrived today - the plan is for me to be at Brooklands for around 08.30am .

I'll be at the gate (or a volunteer on my behalf) to hand out the tickets from around that time .

Looking forward to what is shaping up to be a superb event  ;D

On a different note, the hill climb c5 has also been collected and is ready for the big day  8)

I was looking at the forum today and was curious as to why there wasn't much life on it today.  Then, it occured to me - you're all (or most of you are) at the Brooklands event!

Hope it went ok for all who attended, and that you had a fantasic time!

As one of the people who couldn't attend, I look forward to the YouTube video!  Let's hope it's not long before it's uploaded.

All the best,

Mike

Coming soon Umpa?  That's too long!  I have visions of these events being really cool and retro.  Then at the pit-stop would be Adam's one stop shop with more spares and accessories than you could ever dream of.  He must be like the equivelant to the C5 Ice-Cream van!

Post by: Karl on 20, September, 2009 - 21:04:14
Adam was there and was selling goodies at a very nice discount  :)

As for the rest of the day,it was superb - but also we have now literally made history.

I am told that "challenger" (the hill climb project c5) , which made it up Test Hill, is officially the FIRST electric vehicle to do so  8)

It is also the first vehicle to be specifically built to tackle Test Hill since the Second World War , so we have seen history being made.

"challenger" also took part in the sprint time trial and managed 31mph over the 200m from a standing start. Given that it is geared for getting up Test Hill and not speed on the flat ,I thought it managed a very respectable time. If we alter the gearing it will go faster in a flat sprint.

As always a very big thank you to the Brooklands staff, especially Donna and Bob, for helping us with the "challenger" test runs and also inviting C5alive to this event. Donna sorted the free tickets for us, so an extra big hug for her  ;D

And lastly, thank you to everyone who took the time and trouble to come along and join in - Angie and I try out best to keep the events interesting and enjoyable. Seeing the level of support enjoyed by "c5alive" is what makes it worthwhile.

Now that the "Oscars" style thankyou speech is over, here are some piccies  :D

Another great event big shout out to Karl and Angie for arranging this A1 get together. The stig cruising up the test hill was fantastic - 'racing' on the test track was top's - Meeting and having a chat with Adam 'Santa' Harper is not to be missed. Altogether a great day out in C5 land. Nice to meet some of the forum dudes for the first time. We didn't even mind sitting on the M25 car park as I pondered shall I get the C5 out of the boot and nip along between the traffic - there again if I had Challenger i could be home in no time - watching the shop with intrest (C5 for sale with modified electric - 1 owner - suitable for extreme hill conditions..............

Absolutely love those piccies from the track  8)

The kiddies microscooter race was good , especially the way Bob set it up to be like a triathlon style event.

Another good memory from the day was watching the determined Raleigh Chopper owner pedal his way up Test Hill using a zig zag technique.

If the track was wider we could have tried the same  ;D

 I was at Brooklands today finalising some details for C5-25.

Electric Dave was presented with a certificate for the first successful ascent of Test Hill by an all electric vehicle.  8)

I have a copy of it and will be adding it to the "challenger" display board that will be on view at C5-25.

Great stuff Karl, and well done Electric Dave, It is nice to first at somethings (nudge,nudge,wink,wink  :D)
A friend at work is a big scalextric fan and I know they have been to Brooklands a couple of time racing them up the hill, and he also took apart in some filming for James May's new show.

Another top video mate , you are a star  8)

It is good watching "the stig" conquer the hill....rumour has it that electricDave is toying with the idea of a faster run up the hill  :o

Depends on how successful some other projects turn out
