Title: C5 Insurance
Post by: mike7201 on 05, September, 2009 - 23:25:38
Ok, when I get my C5, I am obviously going to do my best to take great care of it.

Do I need to get it insured just like you would insure your car?  I called one insurance company and they thought when I said 'C5' that I meant a Citroen C5!  Some people have never heard of a C5.  I called another and they just laughed!

Seriously though, if I were unfortunate enough to have someone trash it whilst I was in a pub or shop, I wouldn't be able to afford to repair or replace it easily.

Other than not leaving it unattended, does anyone have any suggestions.  Do I even 'need' to insure it, or is it already under my home and contents/personal belongings etc??

Regards,

Mike

Insurance is a good idea, as the valve of a C5 is going up, although I dont if anyone has got their's insured or not, but i'm sure you can insure most things, try Adrain Flux insurance they specialise in insurance for classic vehicles etc, If you get a quote you'll have to let us know how much.

There is no need to insure a c5 from a legal perspective, it just a matter of personal choice whether you do or not.

I think because the c5 is officially a "bicycle", most car/motorbike insurers won't touch them.

Then when you try househould insurance, you get told the c5 is a motor vehicle and to try motor vehicle insurers ...and so you get stuck in a frustrating loop  :-\

Last year I did approach a couple of the specialist bicycle insurers but they weren't interested.

I remember Paul Bunce had his c5 insured , if he's still around maybe he will let you know which company he used.

Still around?   :o

I'm guessing you mean 'still on the forum'?

I tried several companies including Adrian Flux, who would usually insure anything from people to coffins (well, nearly), but this time they said that although their specialist collectors department were interested, no-one wanted to insure something which doesn't have an engine, yet can't go above 20mph!

I looked at an old 'C5 Security' leaflet, which advises on securing the C5 via a chain.  It mentions that Prudential would insure a C5, but that was in 1985.

Don't suppose for a moment anyone's added theirs to their own insurance have they?

Just a thought.

Thanks again.
