Title: Thoughts on Re-purposed Sinclair pod displays?
Post by: baselpat on 09, February, 2013 - 20:25:03
Was just doing a bit of playing with my npod project, and inspired by the recent lcd touch screen thread I thought I would have a little play with these LCD like displays and whist wondering how to house them wondered about Re-purposing another Sinclair product for "new" pod displays.
Work in progress and not likely to feature in anything long term, but though I would share here for ideas for some one else:

The Sinclair TV-80 (or FTV1)

A 2 inch Lcd display mounted (admittedly not straight at the moment) in the stripped shell of the TV (with the Arduino or Raspberry Pi install inside also, eventually  ;D )

I had also though about using my Sinclair Microquartz as a Digital speedometer, reusing the time LEDs or fitting new ones, but unfortunately these "Son of Black Watch fame" items are a little to rare or valuable to hack onto a C5  ;) :

Wow - that is both technically very clever and creatively too!

Hi what is the interface circuit board you are using. Are you just injecting info onto the screen in the same way as an s-video or RGB.

Do you have access to someone to make a circuit board (CAD and Manufacture).

thanks Lance

The circuit I am using is a tft lcd module like this one, connected currently to an Arduino board:

Not sure I plan to use it on the C5, more like just experimenting at the moment  8) with the current thinking of only using it as a "Retro" photo / news ticker frame, but we will see.......

You might be able to help me with a seperate issue.

I've just bought an MX5 that has the original doubledin radio. It's not very good and I think a small android tablet would fit nicely. Would this work? Would I need any extra components other than some kind of trim fitting?

Any thoughts?

Congrats on the mx5 purchase. I have two of them. Love em.

What model do you have?

Hi Pso - I love it too. Best car I've driven I think.

Its a mk1 Eunos - 1.8 in racing green with the tan leather and Nardi trim.

Mechanically it's in amazing nick but it's not so so great atheistically so I'm doing some work to make it perfect in every way. Spending a bit too much tbh.

What have you got. I'm guessing a Mk1 and Mk2?

Sorry I don't want to hijack the thread. I have a 1997 mk1 1.6 as an everyday car but also have an ultra low miles 1.8. Might have to sell the low miles one as I have just lost my garage.

Here is a link with some pics:  http://c5alive.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2638.0.html

Great cars to drive and own.  Have fun doing it up and modifying it.
