Bootlids, Front wheel shrouds, Wheel hub covers.
« on: 09, January, 2010 - 12:05:03 »
As the title says im thinking about making replicas these three items minus any sinclair logos. All items will be fibreglass just wondering if anyone else would be interested? Would be worth my effort making moulds, buying bulk materials etc if a few others wanted some aswell if not im just going to buy some second hand ones as and when they come up.

I remember Mark attempted something similar so it has been tried before.

Whether the items sell will depend on the price, quality and how close to the originals they are.A lot of people do not want to deviate from originality unless they are building a pimped out special.

I've been tempted to do something similar myself but wasn't sure there is a big enough demand for them to make it worthwhile.

Not saying don't do it, but try and gauge what sort of response you'll get before spending too many pennies  :)

To be honest Karl I saw the one front shroud that Mark had the bloke make and its finish was in my opinion less than saleable. You know my background is in body repair so the finished article should turn out ok (I hope :o)! Im not doing them to make a big profit as they will cost a bob or two to produce. Once the effort of the moulds being made is done they can sit and just have the items made as and when they are needed.

Sounds good , might be worth making a "test" sample to show what they will be like and take it from there.

You know how people love to "touch and feel"  :D   , maybe bring one along to a meeting or event.

There is no chance of a "test" sample as once the mould is made thats the entire job done and dusted. What I can do is make a mould for the wheel shroud as it will take the least initial outlay in materials.

Yeah it will function in the same way as an original one with clips onto the front forks.

At the minute sod all but it may get lighter once I've refined the buck a bit more as this first pull was a bit thrown together in excitement with what polypropylene I had kicking about.
