Title: Hosting
Post by: mike7201 on 28, November, 2009 - 20:59:17
Hi all.  What's the policy on arranging meetings / runs?   ???
Do you all discuss it on the forum first, or are they set for us?

The reason I ask, is because I'd like to express an interest in hosting a run in my neck of the woods.  It's with regret however, that I think I may be just a tad too far for most.  That being said, my local area is a holiday destination. Also, quality accommodation & meals are incredibly easy to source - as are the breathtaking views and locations.  What's more, it may even be possible to contact local media, and inform them of the event to allow others to view or even 'dig out' a C5 and join in?

As always, I'll await to hear from the oracles of knowledge...

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike, if you wish to have a run in your area, all you have to do firstly is put a mention on the the forum of where it will be, the distance of the run, possible dates etc and you will get other forum users reply on here, if you then arrange with Karl the best date and it will then be put on the events calender if you deside to go ahead with it.

Smashing.  I'll have a serious think and see if I can come up with a route, location and pit stops en-route.

Thanks mate.

i love Dorset  :)

been to the Dorset Steam Rally several times - a really brilliant day/week out, especially if your into old time transport.

my personal affection is for steam rollers and traction engines, the fair ground is powered by traction engines and consists of many antique fair ground rides.

I might consider putting a guide on how to put a run together, or something similar.

Like Andy says, just put together some idea of start/finish point , distance and date of the run and see how much interest there is.

Generally speaking , the best runs are a circular route so that we don't have to ferry cars about and it keeps the logistics nice and simple.

Having a half-way rest point is always good, especially if it's at a pub - always popular  8)

Hello everyone.  Would it be possible for me to propose an outing?  I'd like to 'host' one in my home town, if anyone's willing to visit.

It's called the 'Rodwell Trail', and is alongside a dis-used railway line.  Naturally, it's a cycle path, and has recently undergone a re-surfacing with smooth tarmac.  Here's a link... http://website.lineone.net/~wendyedwards/rodwelltrail001.html

You may have seen this route on Julia Bradbury's Railway Walks programme - http://www.juliabradbury.com/railways.html

I should point out though, that we'd only be riding on the smooth part of the trail!  Not the rocky hill or track parts as shown on some pictures!!

There's a pub at the start, and a pub at the end.  Car parking near each end too.

I'm thinking August.  Would this be ok with anyone?

Here's a link to the local website, to tickle your tastebuds... www.visitweymouth.co.uk

If anyone's interested in making a weekend of it, I'd be happy to supply details of reasonably priced B&B's and Guest Houses.  I can also post details of maps and attractions if required.  If you'd like a brochure sent to you, click here - http://weymouth.nmspace.net/site/requestinfo

There's a lot to see besides the Rodwell Trail, and in August, the area is a family resort, with many places offering walks, entertainment and open visitor attractions.  What's more, there would be plenty of chances for ice-cream!!

;D  This is also an area which is very pleasant, and friendly too.  A great chance to show off the C5 smiles!!  ;D

Whadda ya think?

Dont despair mate - we've got a lot on the go at the moment, once c5-25 and Cambridge are sorted I'm sure we can give this some more thought  ;).The 2010 events list is filling up quickly so you're right to get in there early  :)

Hi Mike sounds like a good route - a little bit far for me for a day trip but if it was in the hols it's a possibility - any way if you get a date sorted i'll check it - thanks again.

Sorry to panic.

Dates are flexible really.  Summer holidays are likely, as there's a lot happening.  Ideally it would need to be a weekend.  Either a Saturday or Sunday, but if anyone decided to make a couple of days holiday out of it, then that might prove more worthwhile for some.  So, for a date, you say a date, and I'll see if I can manage it.  At this time, it shouldn't be a huge problem, but I'll still need to check with work etc.

I do appreciate the distance is, for some, a problem.  I guess that's one of the flaws of beibg a C5 owner so far south!

Ok, I'll sit tight and see what comes of it.  Either way, I'd like to 'bagsy' an August slot if one's available.

Thanks
