Back brake mod
« on: 24, October, 2013 - 17:48:05 »
Hi I have just about finished doing a mod that I saw at Brooklands  on Peps C5 ..It's a back brake mod with a disc and caliper ...And it looked great ...So I asked him if I could have a go at making one the same And he said yes .so I started to build one with help from Pep .but in kit form so it could be fitted very easy but it was not that simple so I decided to make it so I would put it together as much as I can and the rest would be up to the buyer ...But it would be very easy to fit with photos ..Any way here are some photos of it ..bye Chas

Hi Chas,

Great work, did a 15 mile trip today to test your brake and works perfectly, much better than the drum brake.  Here is a pic of it all installed:

Thanks that's great Dan and it looks well all I need to do  is to get some better nuts bolts ....But that's not a problem I will send some you some asap ..Thanks again Chas ...

PS I will be sending Dave the black caliper kit for him to test ...Hopefully it will be the same as the one you have tested ...

It's good to hear positive results, I have not really used my C5 with the drum brake so it is difficult for me to compare the two, so it's good to hear initial feedback from what sounds like extensive testing, well done Pep

Hi there Pep using the C5 with the drum is ok but it does some times grab and it makes braking very hard to control .Eaven more so if you are on 24 volt ..also the brake shoes are running low and very hard to replace ...(please mind the punt)
As you sayTesting is going well thanks to Dan ...
And today I will be sending a kit to Dave  to do test on the black caliper  ;) ;) :D :D ;D ;D ....

All thanks to You Pep Chas

Well done Chas
Hopefully Dave's testing will yield the same positive feedback  :)
Onwards and upwards or should that be forward and stop
I have recently bought a second C5 ( the bug goes on ) and have slowly started to restore this one, and it is in far better condition than the first one, so I shouldn't have to replace 98% of this one.

Pep :)

Hi Chas,

I remade the bearing bracket 1.75mm wider like you said.  I'll send you some when I return the old wheel later on.  As you can see the cable is "just" about long enough ;D:

Hi there John the testing has gone well with the rear brake mod so next week I will be selling them to order .If you are interested in one let me know ..But I must have your wheel or a spare left or right rear wheel - the tyre and inner tube and the metal parts before I start to do the work on it ..And it will take about a week .....
Bye Chas

Hi Chas, I've just read through this thread and would be interested in your brake mods for front and rear if I can afford them / either of them - are they for sale, and what's the damage? My plans to upgrade to 24v I think will rest not just on figuring out how to put the power in, but how to stop the chariot too!!!
