Post by: AKelly on 05, June, 2009 - 09:07:06
Hello All
I have just Received a C5 off ebay it is in a bit of a state and will be striping it down and restoring it as a project this winter.

But I would like to give the body work a bit of a clean before then. can any one tell me what is the best product out there to clean the body shell of all the dirt and dust which is ground in + is there any good way of getting rid of small scratches.
thanks
Andrew

Hi Karl,

i liked the new restoration 'sticky' very very useful ;D

think we all agree getting ingrained grease stains out of the C5 shell is a real time consuming pain, reading those links and my laziness being the mother of all short cuts  ;D, it suddenly occurred to me to ask if anyone has tried using a steam cleaner?

don't have to expensive as many cheap £30 wallpaper steamning machines have these attachments either in the box or as extra's. i have used one on various carpet stains caused by grandkids spilling sticky drinks, and to deodorise the dogs sleeping area to really great effect.

while 'she who must not be ignored' would not let me loose on her false teethe with it, if you ever watch the shopping channels they often demo 'miracle' steam cleaners on plastic garden furniture and shower cubicles, so with care damage should not result to the C5's plastics, should easily remove he stickers so be ware if you don't want to do that  8).

might even help with those deformed shells that have been bent down, using the steamers heat to soften the shell while bracing it back as you do to straighten warped wooden doors.

browsing around Tesco today i found a round "antibacterial grill brush" in the hardware section. has that plastic brillo pad type scouring material.

with a bit of a mod using a long bolt and some nuts it could be adapted to fit a drill chuck and used like a wire brush.

as always with abrasives, do not use it excessively if you want to keep the C5s texture of the plastic.
