Good stuff, how many do you have now ?

Hi Andy, this will be my second & hopefully will get a 3rd at some point. The plan is to have two standard 12v and one 24v converted. Waiting for the right one to find me or a good conversion (possible with new motor / gearbox), waiting to see the trials with the dragon unit.
thanks

Hey Lance, I loved this one on ebay, i really wanted to buy it, but for me it was just way to far to organise the courier, just wouldnt have been worth the postal costs.
Excellent buy for sure, like the seat pad and the skill use of the mast top!
Glad someone on heres got it, excellent news. Good luck and let us know how it looks when it arrives!
-
Glad to see the "you have to have more than one Sinlair c5" virus is still spreading nicely ;D
Keep up the good work 8)
-
Karl, Its not as many as your latest batch, That was some find. How have you done it finding all of them!!!

Pickup the new C5, It looked better on the pictures as it need a bit more attention but took a battery and jump leads with me and tested it before I paid. POD & motor works and has the original key switch & 2 original keys so it just need a really good sanding and clean. May even think of getting it sprayed but will see what its like before going down that route.
Here are some more photos:

They do all photogtraph really well, but yours is at least very complete. Although you'll never get rid of the deeper scratches entirely, as you rightly say you can at least minimise them with some sanding etc .Once its all cleaned up they'll hardly notice :)
-
Mine looked like that before I started, but it turned out well.
Take a look:-

mine also had quite a few scratches, mainly on the rear wheel covers though. it looks much better now, still a couple of deep scratches but atleast i don't have to worry too much about scratching it as i would with a pristine c5 :)
-
Mine is a bit rough like that with ingrained dirt. So far I've found a very fine scotchbrite style fibre sanding pad works wonders. It doesn't seem to take the plastic off but will remove the bits of stuck up plastic from scratches and also cleans them out a bit.
I'm not sure what the best cleaner is, I've been using car shampoo with some added Bilt Hamber degreaser.

Hi all,
I have stripped down the C5 today as its been a nice day (yes even for us Northern monkeys :D :D :D). And also installed some mirrors to my first C5.
I hope the Crawley run went well today and we could do with a Northen run if anyone else is up for it :o :o :o.
Anyway stripdown photos.

wow looking nice with those new mirrors :) restoration is looking good already- i love how there's a large hammer next to the pile of parts

Looking good Lance!
At least you managed to get your steering stem out of the frame. I'm having a pig of a time with mine >:(
I'm on the Wirral so chalk me up for a northern run when I finally get mine back on the road...

Hi Chris,
I had also a problem getting to work out how to get the steering stem out. Re-scew the long bar back into the handlebar a few turns then tap (Hammer or a mallet) and it will pop a round nut out at the bottom of the stem and bob's your uncle, nice a free ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. Hope this helps
Lance
-
Yeah, if only it was that simple... The bolt and cone came out really easily but the stem itself seems to have rusted solid into the outer tube. Hopefully if I hit it and swear at it a bit longer it'll come out, the swine. ; >:(

Doe's look nice, coming along a treat, always nice to see restoration projects, but I reckon it might be a bit of hard ride with those bare wheels ;D

Andy, We are hard up North, who needs tyres. ;D ;D ;D
All this refurb is costing a furtune.
I have ordered some city jet tyres but have to wait 2 weeks from my local bike shop.
It probable going to take that time to sort the body shell as it's quite bad with scuffs and some deep scratches.
Will be also trying some 11% Chlorine solution I got from a friend. The water treatment guys use it to clean / flush new mechanical pipe work installs, so will give it a go (small area) but will still use the normal CIF and scouring pads, etc.
thanks
Lance

Good luck with that, let us know how effective it is.
