THEY ARE NOT THAT GOOD TO PEDDLE WITHOUT THE MOTOR, THEY DONT HAVE ANY GEARS, SO IMAGINE RIDING A BIKE IN ONE GEAR.  iT CAN BE DONE AND IT WILL GET YOU HOME (IF YOU DONT NEED TO GO UP ANY HILLS) BUT IT WOULD BE HARD WORK  :-[

A few people , including Chas,  have done this conversion, usually using 3-speed sturmey archer units ;

Looks more like you need RAC / AA for a C5, might be worth checking if you are covered. When I went out one day I ended up after about a 3 miles with a puncture. Luckily I made it to a car wash that I use on a regular basis and the owner brought me home so that I could collect the car to go and get the C5 left at car wash.  Whilst I was getting my car 5 people had tried to make offers to buy the C5. Not for sale after 30hours of work and costs of parts.

Also changed the original Sinclair tyres to Schwalbe city jects (thanks Karl) and touch wood no more punctures.

Personally I don't find mine too difficult to pedal. Sure it's a bit harder going uphill (especially if you're lugging a 12v battery with you) but if you're not in a hurry and take it at a steady pace then there's no reason why you couldn't happily pedal it a good few miles. I have and it was good excersise  ;)

Have to admit, c5 without battery is quite nice to pedal (not for long)

Pedalling a c5 with two batteries wasnt fun at all..

Like Umpa, always carry adequate spares if you can. c5 toolbox, pump and puncture repair kit are a must.

Carry spare Inner tubes if you can.

I have considered carrying one of those spray cans of crap that you pump into the tyres on cars.. Not sure how good that would be though! (Saying that, it might be totally brilliant, if expensive!)

Also I try to go out in two or more and dont get lost :)

Hi All

Took delivery of my 1st C5 from Karl today & he was a diamond geezer loaning me a battery and charger to experiment with, whilst I find my own driving style and average out the predicted range I want to achieve, nice touch hey? Thanks Karl.

I currently have a 2 speed basic Brompton bike, which tends to jam in one gear, so thought the C5 with battery on board would be harder to pedal & true enough it was, but only up hill on the flat I found it really easy and lot more comfortable than my Brompton's poor pedal setting.

Being fairly fit & cycling 6 miles everyday, albeit not at super high speeds  ;D the C5 really brought a smile to my face & all those that saw it.

I recently had a young lad bring round a c5 for repair who had been pedaling his C5 about and his dad had trouble keeping up with him on his mounting bike !!!! - I have a c5 'Archie' that has a 3 speed conversion but to be honest it does not make a massive difference or maybe it my age !!!!
