Title: twin battery model
Post by: plumber on 24, July, 2012 - 22:20:48
hi there, i know this question has been asked before many times........is the control box any different?

as i have a original twin battery model and the control box is different inside..........it was all sealed from the factory.....i opened it to check it before i powered it up........there is a link on the two pins next to the over heat and thermistor wirring..... on the back of the board a track has been removed and a link has been put in......not in the same place as the track was?

any one else seen this?
it all works fine

many thanks

I was always of the understanding there was no difference and have had a high number of  control boxes through and have never seen any mods - However -  Looking at the circuit diagram what you are saying makes sense because the second battery option is mentioned on the two pins you have found linked out - if you could let us have details of the track that has been cut and re-routed I can try and work out what they are up to from the diagram. Also it should have an issue number on the circuit board which makes a difference. Interesting stuff   :) :)

Hi Marty,

I'd like to reopen this theme. Did you ever find out about these changes to the TBM CB?

The reason I'm asking is I have a single and a twin battery model, and I intend to finish the twin first so I need to get the facts now. I saw the additional circuitry in the cct diagram but never check on it's use assuming that I had two single battery models, then I run into this thread while looking for other info,

I have opened both CBs so I can check the butchered one, the non butchered CB is from the TBM and was still sealed. After reading this thread I've just run an A/B check on the two boards, the only difference I can find is the material used as links, plus there is no link between pins 7 and 8 on X6.

Did you ever check the function of the TBM circuitry? If not I'll have to try and find some time to figure this lot out.

Cheers.  KarlG.

P.S. Do you have an accurate figure for CB shunt resistance?

Hi Karl - Sadly I never got to see the circuit board in question - will have a little play from the info you have given  :)

Quote from the unofficial manual on the shunt :

#A current measurement shunt  is provided for driving both the battery condition gauge
compensation circuit and the user display of motor load. A simple stamping from a resistive
alloy sheet, with a nominal resistance of 1 milliohm is used. Riveted power connections and
6.35 mm push-on sense leads are used. All motor wiring uses 6 square millimetre cross
section wire insulated with automotive grade PVC. #

Hi Marty,

many thanks for the info. None of my test equipment can measure such a small value accurately.

I had a quick look at the cct diagram this afternoon, but I'm still trying to figure out what TR3 has for a function.  All the, power, wiring and key switch are present for the second battery, but no wiring for the CB or connector in the CB for pins 7 and 8 on X6.

Would appreciate it if you keep me posted.
