Review of c5alive in 2011

As this year draws to a close I thought I'd take a look back through the forum and see what sort of a year we had .

For me personally it got off to a good start with the successful trips to Rotterdam resulting in my stash of c5's and spares increasing nicely. Several of those restored c5's are now with happy owners who have also become c5alive forum members as well.

Our season of meetings and events kicked off in March with a Crawley meeting that was blessed with good weather and saw some new faces join in. Steve supplied the ice-creams at our rest stop and remarkably ,for a first run of the year, we saw no breakdowns at all. However, "Rent Boy" did borrow my c5 named "moneypit"...the effects of this became apparent later in the year  :o  ;D

In May we met up with Radiomarty and his family. After a superb breakfast by Mrs Radiomarty, we set off for a superb "off road" run around the lakes , excellent bumpy dusty fun   :D The effects of Rent Boys abuse of Moneypit showed when the axle sheared , resulting in a major roadside repair involving an axle swap - Radiomarty providing an excellent courier service to obtain the required part ! May was also the month that saw us return to Santa Pod and take part in the excellent Alternative Energy Racing event. ElectricDave and RadioMarty took the c5000 up to 55mph , whereas the rest of us had fun on Challenger and Voodoo putting in some good runs. We were far from the slowest on the course so a fun day was had by all.

In June we returned to Norfolk for RetroAndy's Royal Run and shamelessly gatecrashed the Daimler and Lanchester owners club rally. Much to our amusement we drew a larger crowd than many of the classic cars  8) Later the same month there were even more classic cars at the Brooklands Double 12 event, where radiomarty and electricdave entertained the crowds with Challneger and the c5000 roaring up Test Hill . We had an excellent display area under the tail of Concorde. A superb and very memorable day. This month also saw us involved in more motorsport action with an appearance at the Precott Hill track. This was the day where we truly tasted the highs and lows of motorsport  in that the joy of watching challenger and the c5000 ascend the hill was overshadowed by Mrs RadioMarty crashing "challenger" on the return leg.  Thankfully Mrs RadioMarty's visit to hospital only required some stitches, showing just how lucky we had been in avoiding serious injury (although the nasty bruising took some time to fade  :o).

July saw c5alive venture abroad for the first ever International C5 meeting. Frank did us proud with an excellent and  amazing itinerary that included some breathtaking routes, a visit to the Burton car factory and superb hospitality. Trying to summarise it all here is virtually impossible, take a look through the relevant topic in the archive section for all the pictures and details. This is certainly a trip worth repeating as soon as we can   8).

RadioMarty found a great event in August where he organised ac5alive run to the Wickstead Park cycle extravaganza. Judging by the comments ,this was full of weird and wonderful crazy machines ,so the c5's fit straight in ! Hope to see this feature as a return visit in 2012. We also went along to the Rudgwick steam & Country show , another overnight camping event where the c5's drew large crowds. (The least said about rent Boy and the baby wipes the better  :o  )

September was an amazing month for us. We were invited along to the Ecovelocity event held at Battersea Power Station. Max & Tony helped man our stand during the four day event and also took part in the daily parades. It was great seeing c5alive rubbing shoulders with the big players in the electric car world , and even better to see the c5 getting such a positive reaction. Especially as it was one of the oldest, and certainly the cheapest, vehicle there. We also made a return to Brooklands for the Vintage cycle event , a firm favourite on our list. Much fun was had on the Mercedes Benz World test track. This remains our premier event and will be on our list for 2012.

October saw our season come to a close with a visit to Norfolk for Rays traditional winter run. Closing the season for us was a visit to an Eco fair at Hassocks (a follow up invite from the Ecovelocity event).

Overall this was another really good year for c5alive. We've seen new members come along and take part in our meetings and events, the forum is busier than ever and our events are well attended.
For 2012 I plan to see the c5alive website completely overhauled, both the forum and shop side, and hope to see our meetings and events continue to grow.

Thanks to everyone who has supported c5alive to help keep it going , and we look forward to more fun in 2012.

What are your favourites from 2011 ?

We definitely need to organise something up North for 2012. But looks like a good 2011 had by all, thanks to Karl (BooBoo).
