I'm On The Road with C5Alive !!!!
« on: 24, February, 2009 - 19:23:39 »
Its done - and it works !!!!!!

The C5alive leisure battery kit is an awesome kit, the instructions were easy to read and understand.

The C5alive motor bar thing fits a treat.

Today I have driven my C5 all around the village, talked to some kids (who now want one) and a lady in a mobility scooter where we talked about range and speed, the C5 is not far behind - she told me that it has a top speed of 15mph and 7mph up hills.  She also told me that she gets 25miles to the charge (it has two batteries).

Now for the best bit, my C5 set off, no belt slip from standstill, it does 7mph up hill - no peddling and 13mph on the flat and an eye watering 26mph down hills (its very hilly were I live).

I am so impressed I cant say thanks enough.

I now have to clean the old girl up and buy a few more bits.  I need

1) some genuine middle hub caps
2) Some handle bar foam
Can anyone help with them ?

I then need to fix my stickers on - then I'm ready for some meets

Ps - my thumb hurts - should it be so hard to press the go button ?

Thanks loads

Ian

Its a great feeling when you get your c5 running and that first test ride is so much fun, i would advise that you fit one of C5 Alive's motor fan to keep it from over heating going up them hills. looking forward to meeting you on some runs in the year.

Are you using the power in short bursts as keeping the power button pressed in all the time can result in overheating problems , as a lot the power you use ends up as heat , not forward motion .
This also helps to increase the range of the battery !

it's very hilly where I live, so it's power on and pedel power I'm afraid.
It's not really an overheating issue it's more that it's hard to press the button and my thumb hurts.

All I have is a tittle microswich behind a stiff rubber handle grip, the gap between the switch and the cover is quite big considering the size of the switch.

The switch should sit within ,and close to, its allocated space within the raised section of the handlebar grip.

Hopefully it's just a case of lining everything up, a bit of trial and error. Have a go at loosening off the brake lever and repositioning the switch ,or twist the handlebar grip round - you should hear a healthy "click" when the button is pushed/released & it should be quick to return (sort of spring loaded).

You've done yourself proud mate, and I'm glad we've been able to help  :)

Martin's wiring kit is every bit as good as you say, but it's aways nice to hear "independent" appreciative comments, so thanks for your posting  8)

Plus it's always good to see another c5 alive and back on the road !

On 'Jetpac' I have what was the horn button and the left microswitch wired up as power button's, so you can drive left or right handed and can change hands if your thumb starts to ache.

The previous owner had also wired what was the indicator switch under the seat as a 'cruise control' button that kept the engine powered on without having to hold either button. I personally though this was dangerous and nearly had a mishap catching the switch whilst looking for something in the footwell and have restored this back as an indicator switch.

I too had overheating problems but this was cured after fitting the fan kit and has not done it since. Only wish I had a cooling kit for myself on the Brighton run where I got so sunburnt I almost had heatstroke but the C5 performed well!

Kurt.

I have been to the shops today, IN MY C5 and bought 4 cans of Stella and a big bag of crisps.

Anyone have a boot lock to sell me ?  dont have the key for mine)
Anyone have Handlebar Foam to sell me ?

I had the same problem, with no key for the boot lock.
Take it apart and remove the tumblers inside and then you can fit any key.
After all,who is going to break into a C5 boot,to steel???
Maybe the tool kit,hehehe.
