I Finally Got One
« on: 14, October, 2012 - 12:56:58 »
Hello all

I picked up my new to me C5 yesterday, it looks in pretty good shape.  Came with the original battery and charger and documents and keys.  I can't get the battery to charge but hey ho.  I have ordered the wiring kit to convert it but will keep all the original bits.

Just set about cleaning it at the mo.  I am going to get it working I think and then attempt to strip it down and paint up the chassis and build it back up.  I am a bit confused about many things so I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions as I go on!!

Firstly what grease should I buy to do all the bearing and moving parts? Oh and what do I need to buy to remove the pedals, I have seen on a video that you need a special tool?

Here are a few pics, any advice or help would be most appreciated.

I hope you like it, I am over the moon with it.

Thanks

Simon

It certainly looks in good shape, i am sure it will bring many hours of fun !

I have used both LM grease and stuff you put CV joints, and all seem to work fine.

Good luck with it, if you need any help just ask,     plenty of experience on here to get it sorted.

John

Hi pso-buzz,

Quote
Oh and what do I need to buy to remove the pedals

you need a peddle extractor to remove the peddles. This you can buy through ebay or from your local bike shop.

First operation is to remove the screw used to retain the peddle (use a socket). Before using the extractor screw out the inner section, screw the outer section of the extractor into the pedal crank (be careful that you don't cross thread when inserting). When the outer section is fully bedded screw in the inner section until the crank has been removed. You may have to apply considerable force when screwing in the inner section, but if the outer is properly bedded there will be no problem.

Best of luck.

Hi there and thanks for your help so far, I have been cleaning again today, wanting to try and find out what I have and what state its in and what I need to do. I might be meeting up with Lance as he is my area for him to give me his opinion.  That would be great.

I have noticed that one of the screws on the back light cluster has corroded and I cant undo it, I have tried to get plyers in the back of it and shift it but nothing. I am very reluctant to drill the top of the screws head of with a fear of cracking the back lens.

Here is a pic:

KarlG, I have searched for peddle extractors on ebay but can't find anything.  Do you think that they could be called anything else?  Thanks

Here are a few more pics:

Hi Simon,

I got my crank removal tool off ebay £3.75 only.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bike-cycle-tool-crank-extractor-remover-puller-pedal-/150663754724?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item23144273e4

The grease I use LM2 multi-purpose grease by Carlube.

Hope this helps

Lance

Thanks to everyone for all your help so far.

Here is a quick update.

I put some water in the battery and charged it last night and to my amazement after all these years it charged up!

So fitted it in and turned it all on.  The lights worked the pod didn't. The motor was making a hammer drill sound.  After looking on the forum I adjusted the belt tension and cleaned the connectors up on the back of the pod.

Here it is all powered up.

Just wanna say, without this site and forum I would never of bought one.

Thank you all

Simon
