Should the back wheels spin freely ???
« on: 10, February, 2011 - 18:59:18 »
Me again question after question tonight

Should the back wheels spin nice and easy because when I have the left wheel completely off the brake side flows nicely but when I put the left one back on and the tighter I do the bolt it seems to cause friction. THe wheels still turn like when i spin them they may do 2 or 3 revolutions and thats it. I did check to make sure the brakes were not biting and they are not so if any of you guys out there know what the problem is, if it is a problem that is just thought I would ask.

Thanks guys

Gary

They should spin freely.Talking about the braked wheel, brake adjustment is critical obviously and can take time to set up to perfection. Centre the shoes by spinning wheel and applying brakes a few times. Driven side is dependendent on bearings running free without endfloat-again its a simple matter of adjustment,. Any residual drag is going to eat into pedal and motor effort.

Hi Chas,

It would seem it is the washer that is missing, I have tonight adjusted the wheel + cog and it seems alot better for both sides I will see if I can locate a washer from a local shop takinf in some measurements with me.

Thanks for your help

This might help explain the need for the "spacers" ;

Hi,

Good news got hold of some washers yesterday from my local tool merchants but just one more question

In the photos above in this thread Chas is showing a o ring and concave washer was this standard and do you need them because that one is going to take a bit of time to source.

Thanks guys

Gary

Hi there Gary the concave washer is just a normal washer that has been concaved due to tighting  on the bolt at the end of the Axel .(That's what I think anyway ) the rubber O ring was put there to keep out the dirt but they are not necessary ....
