Hi there all just finished  building the 24 volt c5 ...Also listed a new C5 on ebay take a look .
So now Iv`e started experimenting with a metal insert for the gearbox .When it`s finished hopefully it could replace the old plastic one ....the teeth on the g/box will never wear out ,all I need to do now  is to build it up and test it out ...
Will let you know how it goes

Please note I have fitted the gearbox to a brand new motor not the one in the second photo

.....more photos to follow

"improvise,adapt and overcome"  ;D 8)

That could save a few gearboxes that have worn out the main drive cog  ;)

Yes you are right Karl .The tooth drive at the end is secured by a keyway shaft and could be replaced with a sprocket drive if needed ...

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I have my doubts it would cope with a full power 24v set-up.

If you keep the original small cogs they would fail, if you replace them with metal ones they would damage the "teeth" on the inside of the casing as we found when experimenting on Jason Bradburys 24v C5;

Hi Karl you could be right but first of all I will test it out on the normal set up ..then if all goes well I will test it out on 24 volts ...The difference with my gearbox is that the internal drive is aluminum not  plastic .But if as you say the outer case will get damaged the next step for me is to replace it with a metal one and replace the small internal cogs with metal ones ...

Ok I have now taken out the 24volt 900watt motor ,and fitted a brand new motor ( the one with the aluminium insert gearbox) into the same C5 body.. And just taken it for a run and it seems to be ok .I have fitted a larger fan to cool the motor down which seems to work , but may fit another one near the gearbox .All it now needs is a good long run ....

You might be on to something there with the strengthening plate across the rear of the chassis.

Should make things less likely to bend.
