Wheel drive cog
« on: 24, January, 2013 - 11:48:21 »
I have dismantled a large part of my C5 for a good clean and service and noticed that the large cog on the drive wheel has a rather large crack in it..

Does anyone have a decent replacement for sale?  Thanks in advance!

I've got a spare one  :)

I'll email you some details.

Sadly, I reckon we are going to see more like that as all the components get older.

Thanks Karl, replied already!

Just a quick question - is the metal sleeve around the axle supposed to stand slightly proud of the bearing in the cog?  It won't go in any further.

posted this afternoon so should be with you soon.

you should have some shims to pack it out flush , there is a topic about it on here somewhere...I'll see if I can find it (unless someone else does first  :P)

Excellent, thanks for that!

I don't have any shims there at all. I assume they all go the "wheel" side? I should be able to find some suitable washers to use there instead.

this may help as well;

http://c5alive.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,342.msg2293.html#msg2293

I tend to place one "inboard" side of the wheel and the rest , usualy about 4 or so, on the "outboard" side

Hi there you will find that most of the large cogs have cracks in them but yours is a bigger than most and may break up at any time .But it could go on for quite a while ..They are very strong ....
