This is pretty awesome, a transformer robot made from the parts of 2 C5's:

That looks quite cool. Interesting to see what it will fetch.
-
This is brilliant.
If it had wing mirrors and indicators on I would but it for parts!!
Simon

Brilliant.......................................
Its mine get offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.

Looks cool

Item condition: New
C5's done 200 miles probably lol
-
If it's a transformer it should be able to turn back into a C5 with some folding
-
And there's the opinion of the marque enthusiasts who are apparently meant to be the people most interested in preservation... That idiot college kid's destroyed two irreplacable items of our nation's transportation heritage in the name of 'art', killed two apparently working Pod's and control boxes too. My thoughts? Obscenity. Oh, and read the small print. The auction's for a C5 bolt...
-
The posting says its a sculpture and NOT a real transformer.......................................

Hence 'art'...

Should just buy it for the pods

You can't, he's rewired them, so more than likely killed two septicale ULA chips ;-)

Why on earth have I put "bar steward". I never remember putting that down :-[ :-[

I know why, Marty has edited it ::)

Doesn't take a genius to work it out. ;)
Next time, perhaps consider using different language.
-
Whatever language it's said in it's still what I thought when I saw it ;)
On a more serious note, everyone has different opinions when it comes to preservation. A guy I once knew had an old Bentley, 1940's thing. He loved telling people it was "completely original" until I asked him if he'd ever fitted new tyres. He said "Of course!", So I pointed out that it wasn't actually completely original. It's almost impossible to restore something and have it anything but ' looking' original, and I love what Dan's done with his computerised C5, Chas with his Batmobile, the list goes on BECAUSE they've kept the vehicles on the road rather than being left to rot. On the other hand, with just how scarce parts are, especially ULA chips, it makes my blood boil when someone does something like that to them on the basis that it's just meant that two people who were desperate for ULA chips to keep their C5' s on the road now can't because he's wrecked them to pass his college course.
I do find it interesting that he said he spent £3000 on it... that certainly wasn't on the steel frame and paint, which leads me to assume that the two C5's he used were reasonably high priced and therefore in good condition. I'd offer him £100 to see if there were any salvageable parts, but other than that he might just as well have taken a blow torch to the pair of them for the use they are now.
-
Spotted that on ebay .. certainly looks different :D
Although i dont think he's planning on selling it via auction, as he says this "This listing is for 99p and you will receive a Sinclair C5 bolt if you bid and win in line with eBays rules." , even though it's set up as an auction :o
I wonder what would happen if the bids went over 99p ?
-
£3000 on 2 C5's :o :o :o :o . For some reason I don't believe that
-
As an eye catching sculpture I think it's great and really like it.
I try not to get too precious over the fact that a couple of c5's have been chopped up because there are so many still out there , hence the reason they are not going up in value . As a c5 owner you should be chuffed that a few more are out the picture , it all helps push up the value of those that are left ;)
Tongue is firmly in cheek for some of this posting, things were getting abit too heavy ;D
-
Karl - That would bring the crowds in on the C5Alive stand - I can picture it now -cmon bud i'm sure Angie wouldn't mind the £3k asking price ;)
-
Brilliant "robot" and bit of art. I love it.
I disagree with that fact that he is only ebaying a bolt and not the whole think - A little too cheeky if you ask me.
-
Maybe a few of us could club together and share the time and cost.
Lance
-
How many people are in the club?
We could pledge money and make an offer.
I can see many other people being interested, he might take a stupid offer!
Simon.
-
Hi there Karl if you have two body's + a few spares to make it I could have a go at it but there is question of copyright ..
Chas

Danny you need to speak to a counsellor mate.

I can't see there being a copyright issue, just change a few details. It's not like you are making them to sell.

I've chatted with the guy that created this via email and he's quite complimentary about our website ,he even viewed it for help.
Whilst I'm sure he appreciates that his art work has sparked some debate I'd ask that contributors to this forum keep it civil and are a little more eloquent.
Constructive criticism is ok but nasty comments are not.
This forum is known for being helpful and also friendly which is a reputation I'd like to keep.
The comments have been "modded" accordingly.
-
Boo... ;)
-
"This listing is for 99p and you will receive a Sinclair C5 bolt if you bid and win in line with eBays rules."
I think you missed the cheeky part, "Collection only". :o :o :o
This is obviously a sneaky way of advertising an article and getting round paying the ebay fees.
When you think about it there's probably more C5 unwanted bodies available than any other spare part, so I don't consider the sacrifice of a couple of bodies to be a sin. But where does the £3,000 come in? If he's really paid out this kind of money, then more fool him and anyone who makes an offer.
But all said and done it's not my cup of tea. And talking about tea, I'm off to make one. Bye. 8)
-
I agree with 99% of what you've said there Karl, except for one thing. Bodies are ten a penny, there are far more than could ever be restored, but it's not just bodies he's used. Look at the Pod, front wheel cover, indicators, loom, etc etc that enthusiasts and restorers are so desperate for to keep these machines on the road, and then take another look at it. The bodies themselves are irrelevant, the fact is that there are far more bodies around than parts to go on them.
-
Hi Dan,
I know and I don't agree with what he's done. There again I don't like to see anthing thats good being destroyed for the sake of entertainment be it a house, a car, a C5 etc. But, thats only me, each and everyone has their own taste.
-
Ok ok so this chap has cut a couple if C5's up. It could be worse. There does seem to be a few on eBay.
Do we know why, what was his idea and concept?
It's a stunning thing all the same. Just my opinion.
-
One thing I did find funny about it was in the description saying "Nobody got it"... Really? Nobody 'got' the original C5 either which is why they're so rare now... Maybe he should have thought about that before cutting up two of Sir Clive's finest ;)
-

I am not sure if you mean this but the back ground looks the same

Haha maybe he bought three perfect C5's and only used two. Had my eye on this one, it looks a little minter!

And worth 6 times as much as the robot too ;-)

Ha ha ha @ Luke!
I am getting the impression Danny that you are not too keen on it, just a hunch! Am I right. Lol.

You could be right, that is if Morley, West Yorkshire is part of London. :o :o :o

Now what could possibly male you think that? ??? I just hate artists in general... once in a while you see something and think ' Hey, that's clever!' but when you take something rare and irreplaceable and hack it to bits to make a sculpture that's where I draw the line lol!

Oh my >:( >:( I always look at every thing else apart from the main bits, there must be something wrong with me
-
I think it's time to give up the bear baiting.
When 99% have one opinion it doesn't mean that the remaining 1% is in the wrong, they just have a different opinion. ::)

Trouble ::)

Modern art like his or painting? ;)

Can we draw an end to this thread and move on chaps. This piece needs to be appreciated for what it is. There are plenty of other C5s being broken for parts elsewhere and there are still plenty of parts around.
