Drive gears - replacement
« on: 14, April, 2010 - 11:56:59 »
After having somewhat of a failure with my drive gear, which is currently sitting on a windowsill with a lot of araldite *hopefully* fixing the bearing in place (it keeps slipping), I've been researching a possible replacement for the silly plastic gear. So, I've been having a look online and I came across this picture:

Notice the gear in the top left? Look familiar? I certainly think so.

This proved to me that it's at least a standard part. However, finding a 69 tooth timing pulley, 16mm wide with a 26mm bore and a 106.5mm (ish) external diameter seems a little harder than expected...

So, has anyone ever managed to find a suitable replacement or should I just go for the 'best guess' solution and find a belt to fit it? I notice there is some possible leeway for a different size by rotating the motor...

Thanks!

Adam

You could be on to something there. I might have to get one of those and try it out on "half-pint" ,just to see if it fits and works properly.

Well in the course of fixing my C5 up I've ended up with a large bearing out of my gearbox left over (as I bought a new one, the old was rather rusty and useless), I've jammed that over the bit that sticks out on the left (outer) of my drive gear and it's holding it together wonderfully. However, it's still cracked and a bit broken, so I'm still looking for a replacement...

I've sent some enquiries to a couple of companies, I'll see if I get any responses...

This is now I fixed mine:

The inner fits over this side of the drive gear nicely. As you can see, there's a mark I made on it to see if it slipped at all, which it (so far) hasn't! This saw my into Cambridge and half way home (about 7 or 8 miles total) before my axle snapped...
