Spare pod ULA Chip (untested)
« on: 21, January, 2013 - 19:25:44 »
Seeing some of the "emotion" over a broken C5 or 2 and their supposed rarity for spares over on this thread, :) I thought I would help balance some C5 karma by offering my "spare"/unused ULA chip.

(chip only - the rest of the board I need for components etc)

Please Note that it is *untested*, But it may work and hence, I will only part with it for the paypal cost of the postage from Switzerland (and a pint of UK beer?)  :)

  • You don't have to be mad to own a C5, but it helps

So without this chip it won't work and there is no way around it?

@ pso-buzz.

No, there is a way round it, Phil's ULA replacement. Look at Phil's article at http://www.cypax.net/projects/ula/index?language=en, you will see that Phil produced a unit that simulates the original ULA.

This unit is not a direct replacement for the ULA but with some slight mods to the C5's electronics it would bring the C5 back to life, plus with some additional components the C5 could be used in pedelec mode.

I offered some time back to produce and test some of these units if someone in the UK would be prepared to program them for the customer and distribute them. Due to lack of concrete help from the UK side I've now dropped the idea.

I'll produce a unit to convert #1 to pedelec, and if Pat's unit is duff I'll go 24v on #2.

Phil has stated categorically that he will not produce any further ULA replacements, see http://c5alive.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2471.msg20717.html#msg20717. So don't wast your time trying to contact him, IF he answers then it will only be confirmation of  his non participation.

Are there any computer buffs on here in the uk that could support Karl on this as it is a excellent opportunity
