Title: c5-25 : 25th Anniversary of the Sinclair C5 - new date 7th Feb 2010
Post by: Karl on 07, November, 2008 - 11:59:42
Although still some way off, Sunday 10th January 2010 will be the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Sinclair C5 at Alexandra Palace.

I've explored the possibility of holding an event in one of the function rooms at the 'Palace itself. Sadly the financial exposure is a bit high for such a small set-up as C5alive, so we may have to look at some alternatives.

We could still meet at "Ally Pally" and have a photo-shoot etc outside, plus hold another meeting elsewhere later in the year. Returning to Brooklands has been suggested as an alternative.

Other suggestions,ideas etc most welcome.

Either way, with this much notice I'm sure we can think of something to make sure this momentous occassion gets the proper recognition it deserves  8)

Does anyone know how to get hold of Sir Clive himself ? i would love to meet him, as i'm sure we all would. It would be great if we could somehow and somewhere arrange the biggest meeting and you never know perhaps Sir Clive would like to see that also, afterall we all love the Sinclair C5.
I wonder if the gadet show could help in this ?

There are still a lot of discussions going on in the background regarding "C5-25". I wanted to post this thread to try and gauge the level of support for such an event and explore any other ideas people can come up with.

My preference was for a meet at "Ally Pally" on the anniversary of the actual day the C5 was launched. However, if we want to maintain our usual "zero cost" style meeting , then it would have to be an outside event - which could be cold, wet and windy ...or even dry and bright - who knows ?  But to hold the event indoors, at a venue as prestigious as the 'Palace, would cost a few pennies - which (understandably) I don't think there is much enthusiasm for.

So instead of one big expensive event , maybe several smaller & cheaper events is a better option

I'm open to suggestions, plus we have quite a bit of time to decide.

How many pennies Karl ? what ever do for this event it must be a big one, i'm sure we can spread the cost as a C5 team event. Or we could each put a little in at each event in 2009 the a christmas club ?

Andy - we can talk through some of the figures etc when we meet at Ray's. I'm sure we'll get something put together for the 25th anniversary, it's just a question of how big an event we want and whether ,as a group, we are prepared to pay towards it if necessary.

Maybe someone has links/ideas regarding sponsorship etc.

I suppose sir C won,t be all that interested in celebrating the launch because of the fact it was one of his least successful enterprises, still, if the number of owners pledged to turn up was quite significant then maybe with all the hoohaa these days about fuel and emissions etc he could turn up for a big 'I told you so'!!.

I read an article about Sir Clive where he was asked how he felt about the C5. If I recall correctly, he said he viewed it simply as a another project and didnt feel an emotional attachment to it. It was the same article where he mentioned our London-Brighton run , so he is aware we are doing our bit to keep the C5alive  8)

As for "C5-25" , I am in talks with Adam Harper plus talks are continuing with Ally Pally about the cost of staging an outside event  - which is by far the cheaper option.  ;)
Title: Re: c5-25 : 10th January 2010
Post by: Karl on 01, December, 2008 - 23:41:44
we had a bit of a chat about this event when some of us met up at Rays house.

The costs for staging an event at Ally Pally on Sunday 10 Jan 2010 are :

Indoor venue - start off £3k

Outdoor venue - start off £700

The general consensus was, if we go for this event , we should opt for the outdoor option.

Ally Pally have been generous in offering both options at a very generous price - but there will still be a need to raise funds. The outdoor option will need some shelter ,so a marquee etc will be needed which also need to be paid for.

Is there the support for such a meeting ? All ideas and suggestions welcome.

I think we must do something if not in but near the Ally Pally, not knowing that area dont know if a cheaper option might suit more of us, at least we must stop outside for photos, and maybe fine that icing slope that Sir Clive went down, we could even get Martin's son to make a 25th updated lauch video ? i dont mind if some cost's are involved, but can't afford a huge amount, Karl if you get some number's then lets see how much if we all contribute ?

With only 4 votes polled, I guess there isn't much support for this suggested event  at all ???.

I expect I may have to pull the plug on this one soon due to lack of interest, which would be a shame  :(.

Perhaps the enthusiasm for C5's is on the decline ?

I hope its only due to the fact it seems a long way off, it must be a subject that gets decussed on meetings thoughout the year, although money is tight i'm sure we can do something, how many would be interested Karl if it did'nt cost ?  ??? get an idea of numbers before a final decission . Or
would Ally Pally be prepared to let us in if it was a charity event ?

Ally Pally isn't the problem as such. They have already offered us the hall or the outside area free - but we would be expected to meet the staffing costs (security, parking, risk assessment, first aiders etc). These costs are mentioned earlier in the thread - and it's that that's causing the worry.

All our previous events & meetings have been free, the only expense has been everyones own travelling costs. Ally Pally would be our first "commercial" meeting, where up front costs and other financial liabilities are incurred. Although a year sounds a long way off we really don't have that much time to raise the funds and sort out what we might want to achieve for the day.

Being realistic I would have to say arranging such an event might simply be too much for such a small set up as "c5alive".

Perhaps our best hope for a "big event" is if anyone else, like one of the promotional companies, sorts something out and we get invited.

If nothing else happens on the day, I think I will just turn up at the bar inside Ally Pally and raise a glass to Sir Clive. Might even meet wizbat slumped in the corner  ;D

Why not just do a meet at the hoover factory?

Why not just do a meet at the hoover factory?

Because the official launch was at Ally Pally , I thought it made sense celebrating the 25th anniversary at the actual venue used.

A meeting at the Hoover factory later in the same year (2010) might be an option as well. We were invited back for just such a meeting after the Welsh Autofest .

Something to add to the list  :)

An unexpected benefit of supporting Brooklands Museum this year, and building some strong links with them, is that they have offered to host a Sinclair C5 25th Anniversary meeting next year.

I will be sorting out some more details over the next few months , but  hopefully we can put something really worthwhile together.

Is this an event that everyone here would support ?

It's great to see there is support for this event, with luck we can put on an event to be proud of that will also impress the Brooklands team.

Thanks for the offer of help as well, once I've got a better idea of what is needed I'll take you up on your offer  :)

Not too sure about the DVD though, surprisingly there wasn't exactly a huge take-up on the superb Brooklands DVD from September '08 - which is a real shame & makes me a bit wary about arranging another one. It's something to discuss though, so who knows.

The dvd's should be a free download Karl, to be fair its not like buying parts for a C5. I would love to attend loads of meets but wont buy a dvd of them.

Perhaps upload them to youtube - they dont need to be a pro production.

If anyone wants to film one of the c5alive meetings themselves and load it onto "you tube" etc ,then that would be really fab. No-one would have a problem with that being free.

The filming of the Brooklands '08 meeting was different though, as the DVD was professionally done for what was expected to be a big event for us. The idea was that those attending might want a properly made memento of what turned out to be a superb day. Given that David used his own vehicle, fuel ,time and equipment - not just on the day but in editing as well - combined with the supply of DVD's, cases and production costs I'm sure you'll agree it's a bit much to expect something of such high quality for free...

I totally accept no-one asked us to arrange it, so yes it was a bit of a gamble. But understandably I now have limited enthusiasm for sorting out the filming of any of our future events when there clearly isn't the demand to justify it.  Not a whinge, or a rant, just being practical and identifying it's something we tried that didn't work out as well as expected.

may I suggest a low bandwidth trailer ?
I mean even big movie makers always send out a teaser.

If I were to see whats on it - I might have purely for collection purposes.

Just been watching the original tv advert for the c5 and had a great idea, how about if we dress like we did in 1985, drag out the ski jackets, a grandad's shirt, high tech trainers and a pair of ray ban's. I'm going to start checking out the charity shops and have a good look. Karl have a look at the back of your wardrobe. ;D

Some excellent news  8)

I've been to Brooklands today for a meeting to "firm up" some details for this event.

This is where we will be holding our 25th Anniversary event ;

Furnished with Malcolm Campbell memorabilia the Bluebird Room is ideal for events ranging from 20-100 guests. It has plenty of natural daylight and views overlooking the Motoring Village and the option of using the interconnecting Art Deco Members Bar as a breakout area.

Board Room Style – Max Capacity 30
Cabaret Style – Max Capacity 45
Theatre Style – Max Capacity 80
Reception – Max Capacity 100 (150 if used in conjunction with Members Bar)
Private Dining – Max capacity 80

Our booking is now confirmed so it's up to us to make the most of it  :)

We will be able to view the room while we are at the June 13th Fun Day event.

My first thoughts are to stage an exhibition style event, with our various C5's on display. Plus have some TV's at various points playing copies of the
meetings that have been filmed.

Still a lot of planning to do, but the ball is rolling !

If you've any ideas you want to add, just let me know.

I know that the closing of the hoover factory was a sad article, but how about changing the picture at the top of the forum to a Brooklands / C5 25 anniversary advert and perhaps on the C5 Alive home page you could put something to take the eye of anyone just having a quick visit to the site.

I've added the c5-25 thread onto the news section, plus I've made this thread a "sticky".

I'm really fond of my Hoover picture so I'll keep it a little while longer - but will go with your idea closer to the date.

So far Adam Harper and Chris Crosskey have said they would attend.

There are a few more invites where I'm waiting for replies....so far so good  ;)

My first thoughts are still for an indoor "exhibition" style event - that way if it's cold and wet outside it won't really matter  :)

I'm starting to get replies to my invites so things are starting to come together and taking shape.

C5Martin ,Adam Harper and Chris Crosskey have accepted the invite, with Roy Woodward provisionally accepting subject to other commitments.

Once we've viewed the room in June we can start planning on who goes where and displays what etc.  It should then help us identify what we are going to need and where we are going to get it from. I'd like to see c5alive forum members showing off their C5's, perhaps with some piccies of the restoration process next to their C5's. We can also have piccies from the various meetings put up around the room, and maybe a couple of TV's playing Umpa's DVDs of the various meetings. Hopefully Adam will be able to bring along stuff to sell as well.

I reckon we have more than enough material to keep any visitors entertained.

Still some ways to go, but we're getting there  8)

Hello
I would like to go to the 25th anniversary, it would be great to meet sir clive and all of you guys, I hope he comes along. Its tragic the C5 recieved so much negative press, it really didn't deserve it. I was out on mine again today and I didn't feel at all unsafe. I think the man is a genius. Every time you see him being interviewed he allways comes across as very plesant and every one who looks at and drives a C5 allways thinks there great.
Do we have to book in advance for this event or just turn up on the day. I live in caerphilly south wales and if an event was held at the old hoover plant in the future I will definately attend, I can't believe the hoover plant is shut down, its such a shame.

Waran, nearer the time I will ask for confirmation from those wanting to attend so that we can plan the layout and who brings what etc.

Another run in Wales next year might be possible. The Welsh Autofest last year was one of the friendliest C5 runs I've ever taken part in.  In some places people were lining the street cheering us on, which was fantastic  8).

I was at Brooklands again today and was asked if I wanted to view the Bluebird function room that we will be using for the c5-25 event.

Here are some piccies;

We will need to carry our c5's, plus anything else we want to place on display,  up those wooden steps .

Basically the room will be empty, but we can have tables and chairs if I ask for them.

There is access to the bar from this room where we can order food and drinks  :)

I will need to submit a floorplan and a Health & Safety Risk Assessment fairly soon.

My initial intention is still to have a display of our c5's ,plus a couple of "trade stands" for Adam Harper and any others that accept the invite.

Still lots of stuff going on in the background  :-X

Thats a real shame Sir Clive can't make it, but then it was going to be a tall order, i'm sure we all would like to meet him one day, perhaps we can arrange a smaller gathering one day in the future, where he might be able to come and say hello.

I agree it is disappointing that Sir Clive cannot attend, but as you say it was always unlikely we could get him to the event.

On a lighter note the list of VIPs attending so far;

Adam Harper
C5Martin
Chris Crosskey

Provisionally accepted (subject to other commitments);

Trevor (Lynch Motors)
Roy Woodward
Rodney Dale (..check Roy's site for info)

So potentially we have quite a nice mix of people from the world of all things "C5".

I'm still waiting on a few replies, but we haven't done too bad so far  :)

What about someone from Hoover ?

Great minds think alike , I've sent an email to Hoover - but the biggest snag is that they are now part of the Hoover-Candy Group, plus most of the guys involved in the original C5 Project may well have retired by now.

I've not yet received a reply from them, but fingers crossed .

I've also contacted Lotus, but similar snags as with Hoover - I'm guessing most of the guys involved with the C5 may well have retired.

..retroAndy has come up with another superb idea , we are going to have an 80's corner !

To compliment the Sinclair C5's we are going to display some other items from the same era - Sinclair Computers, hand held games etc

Andy has quite a selection , but other bits and pieces would be welcome so check out your spare rooms, loft etc and see if theres anything left over from your misspent youth that could be put on display

Top banana. Thanks guys , it all helps create an impressive event.

I'll make some more enquiries about PAT testing the equipment, last time I spoke to Brooklands the answer was all electrical equipment we intend to use would need to be PAT tested by Brooklands own engineer. Not something that cant be overcome, but it would be easier if they accepted PAT testing by other suitably qualified engineers.

** update on the PAT testing ******

As we suspected, all electrical appliances that we want to plug in at Brooklands must be PAT tested prior to the event.

The good news is that the PAT testing can be done by any properly authorised tester , the appliance just needs to have a valid sticker on it at the event.

So if you have a certified tester locally , you can use them  ;)

But if it doesn't have the relevant sticker on the day, it can't be used - which seems fair enough (insurance requirement I expect).

To be honest, we've not really moved on from the last time we discussed it all.  It was last left as;

Umpa - powerpoint demo  (supplying own gear ?)

Andy -  retro games/computers and stuff

As many c5alive Forum members as possible to bring their c5's for display, especially hope to see some modded c5's (Ray's Ubmobile, Benniz etc )

Myself - display boards , now to include one about Test Hill &  "Challenger"  , my unused C5 plus some accessories on display

Adam Harper - invited, display details to be finalised

Other guests are still to confirm their attendance,so it makes further planning a bit tricky.

I've got some days off coming up soon, so I'll be pushing this a bit further forwards then.

You'd be more than welcome mate  :).

As for the price, I'm hoping to keep this free for all those that attend to display their c5's - still to be confirmed. Worse case scenario is the standard £8 museum entry fee.

Sadly , Roy Woodward has now confirmed he will not be able to attend due to holiday commitments  :( and the author Rodney Dale is still a "maybe" - fingers crossed he can get to the event on the day.

I'm hoping to get to Brooklands soon to iron out a few more details for this event .

Firstly, I need a rough idea of how many people are likely to attend and bring a c5 with them - please start letting me know asap. I'd like to see at least 25 c5's at the event - it would make for an awesome photo-shoot.

Secondly, I feel we should put together a programme of events to give the day more structure. We know the museum officially opens at 10am and closes at 4pm , so we need to list what we will be doing between those times.

Let me have your thoughts and ideas on how to make this event worthy of its place in history  8)

To start with;

The list of people and C5's attending

Me & Angie : six and a half c5's - "voodoo" , "moneypit", "malcolm", "Dave" , "virgin" ,"half-pint" & "challenger"
Kurt - plus 1 c5 "jetpac"
Radiomarty (& family) - plus 1 c5

Proposed "Programme of events"

10am -doors open .

11am - umpa's powerpoint

1pm - C5 maintenance demo/talk (using "half-pint")

2pm - repeat of umpa's powerpoint

3.30pm - event close

Andy will have his retro games display, plus c5martin has suggested we hold a repeat of the hillclimb attempt and the outside demo in the usual "playpen" (subject to the weather) .

This is just the first thoughts and will be changed/updated as ideas come forward  :)

Some important news regarding C5-25

I went to Brooklands today to finalise some details for our C5-25 celebratory event. Our event is now being publicised on the Brooklands website (more info to follow);
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/events/details/2010/01/10/

We are lucky enough to have the use of the Bluebird Function Room free of charge, but unlike previous C5alive events at Brooklands, on this date we will not have free entry to the site meaning entrance fees will be payable at the gate. I am hopeful of securing a small discount for those exhibiting a C5 at the event - but cannot guarantee this.

If paying at the gate means you no longer wish to attend, please let me know so I can amend the list accordingly. At first glance this news may seem disappointing, but please remember we have enjoyed several events (spread over two years) at Brooklands where entry for us has been free, even at times when others have had to pay. Brooklands is a charity and needs to make money to survive, so I don't feel too upset - we will be contributing to a worthy cause.

Brooklands will be supplying six 6' x 2'6 tressle tables for our use and they are also providing a prize to be awarded for the best 1980's fancy dress. I'm happy to contribute a T-shirt for 2nd place - so RetroAndy's fancy dress idea is proving popular.

I would like to display at least 10 C5's inside the room , along with retroAndys games display (supplemented by a few items from Kurt/Radiomarty etc). We have permission to use the outside staircase that leads directly into the function room, rather than have guests going up through the clubhouse building. At the foot of the stairs there will be two gazebo's  plus the remaining number of C5's to highlight our event.

If the weather proves to be pleasant enough, we have permission for several C5's to be ridden around the site to help promote the event.

The adjacent bar will be open allowing us to purchase food and drinks throughout the day.

I intend to arrive at around 8am to set up the room ready for the days events. All those wanting to show their c5's will need to arrive before 9am so we can get everything ready before the gates open to the public at 9.30am.

I think that covers most points discussed today  :)

just a thought for those who would fancy visiting regularly or perhaps taking a family to this event is to get a membership -:

http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/support-us/brooklands-trust-members/

Membership level
Club - £85
Family - £50
Couple - £45
Individual - £30

if i've read it right, @ £50 per year for a family (2 + 3kids) for unlimited admission seems a bargain to me, and you can then use the members bar.

I have a very rare prototype I might bring if I am not working that day.

It was one of two built as a design for an offroader C5.  Two batteries power two motors.  Fat off road wheels at the rear, and joystick steering rather than the bar under your legs. No pedals.

this is a communication from a few years ago with Peter Milner who worked at Sinclair.

Dear Michael,

Good to hear from you. From memory (which is not the best!) we built two
what we called at the time 'off-road' prototype C5s. They had joystick
steering, large section wheels and tyres (rears at least) and the prime
target market intent was the golfing community. The first vehicle was a
purely experimental conversion and the second was closer to the
specification we would have marketed. I don't recall what happened to
the first vehicle but the second finished its days (as far as I know,
because I delivered it) in Connecticut. At least one of the two (and
certainly the second) had a prototype dual-winding single motor offering
'low' and 'high' range.

Some documented information exists, including video footage of my son
driving one of the vehicles on Nuneaton golf course (and through a
perimeter ditch) but it is currently on loan to Roy Woodward (roy@disney
landparis.worldonline.co.uk) who hosts a C5 Internet page. I suggest you
contact him directly if you would like to follow up on this.

Let me know how things progress.

Best regards,

Peter Milner

I'll be placing an advert for our event in a local Newsagents ,next to my local train station , to highlight c5-25   to a few commuters etc. If anyone can help with some aditional publicity please go ahead. The more successful this event, the better - it will help to justify Brooklands faith in us.

replay below to my enquiery -:

Hi Alan,  thank you for your email.  as far as I am aware there is no extra Museum entry charge on 10th January,  if there was  it would have been put on our events listing on our web site.

Kind regards

Good stuff  ;)

Don't forget, just a quick reminder for everyone, if you are bringing along any electrical equipment it must be PAT tested or you wont be allowed to plug it in.

Also, dont forget about your 1980's fancy dress. From phone conversations I've had it is going to be quite an amazing sight on the day ;D

crikey, so we have kit thats 25 years old - even those with modern chargers will fall foul if it's over a year old (as i understand it kit under a year is exempt).

hmmm! wonder if we got a really big extension lead, had that PAT tested - then we al lug into that  ???

 ;D ;D ;D

i stil hope to be there but must admit, if the weather is likely to be iffy, no way am i risking camping out on the M25  :-\

I had a word with my works electrician this morning about that.  Turns out that you’re right and wrong! It’s up to Brooklands if they accept the one year rule or not.  They can and may insist items are PAT tested.

You are right - I have to accept that the situation is looking a bit grim  :-[

If things don't improve we might have to consider the "unthinkable" as it simply is not worth people putting themselves at risk travelling in such bad conditions.

Looks bad as museum is closed Today and Tomorrow.

Will find out Friday exactly what is happening for weekend.

Although It is set to be Snowing all week and into the wekend.
If the met office is to be belived.

It looks worse than I first thought...

Just received this from Brooklands;

Hi Karl

As Donna is away, I thought I would let you know that the VSCC Driving Tests have been postponed from Sunday until the 7th February in view of the snow.  The Museum is closed today and tomorrow and we will have to make a decision as to what to do about Friday and the weekend tomorrow.  I don’t know if you want to think about rescheduling your event – we will be open if we possibly can be on Sunday, but I thought I would give you the heads up on what is happening.

Valerie Mills

Brooklands Museum Trust Ltd,

I don't think it would be wise for anyone to travel far in these conditions, so we should give some serious thoughts to rescheduling the date of our event. If the situation does not improve the decision is likely to be made for us anyway as we cant use Brooklands if its closed .

Even if there is a small chance of it being open, it still might be worth changing the date, as we have that option.

It does look like this weather is going to continue, and we might end up with only half of us managing to get there, and no one else turning up, which would be a huge shame.

Have to admit the sensible option here would be to reschedule.

that gets my vote, common sense has to prevail. look at it this way, even if half a dozen do make it who else (customer wise) will likely show?

this could be a bigger non event than the original AP launch and we don't want to 'celebrate' that element do we?

we also have think of the Brooklands staff and our true respect for them, if we say we will continue at all costs, they someone may will feel 'duty bound' to be there to not to let us down.

do we really want to risk feeling responsible if one of them got hurt in an RTA, trying to get t the venue, just because we were being a bit too selfish to postpone?

i've already decided not to attend on Sunday

dissapointing i know, but imo re-arrange, but not the wekend of the Bike Show :)

I have been chatting to Brooklands by phone today - their staff are working from home as the museum is closed and at best they are considering only limited opening on Sunday.

On this basis I've taken the decision to accept their offer of rescheduling our event to another date.

C5-25  will now be taking place on Sunday 7th February.

I will be contacting as many people as possible, but would appreciate it if you could spread the word - especially as we've been putting up posters etc.

i think it very very wise and have altered my diary, even though today (in Essex) the weather is mild and no big freeze much vaunted and promised last night on all the weather forecasts.

so i went into Liverpool Street station bt train after deciding not to scoot or drive based on the so very foreboding weather forecasts. based on them i had expected arctic freeze and doom of the word conditions.

so i don loads of layers i.e. thermal vest + heavy shirt + heavy sweater + heavy weatherproof jacket +  whats up doc hat + seamans socks and hiking boots,  then embarked on the 10 minute walk to Wickford Station - where on arriving i nearly passed out from heating exhaustion  >:(

so accurate weather forecasts? = bar humbug morelike !!!!

Important update

I've spoken to Brooklands today just to confirm everything is still ok for Sunday.

Our function room is available from 8am onwards ,giving us about an hour to set everything up. If you want to help with setting up meet me there at about 8am  ;D

If you want to access the site through the usual entrance, known as Campbell gate, you must do so before 09:15 - the gates will be shut for the VSCC trials at 09:30. Arriving after 09:30 doesn't mean you can't get in, you will just have to take the long way round and come in through Vickers bridge - the large gate we used last September to get to the Mercedes track.

Just to re-cap on who is doing what (in no particlar order);

Steve is bringing the big Dial-a-ride bus to transport c5's,gazebo's,display boards and display items to Brooklands.

RetroAndy is bringing a selection of 1980's games consoles etc, radiomarty & Kurt are also bringing a few items as well.

Umpa is bringing computer and projector to show a powerpoint display, Mrs Umpa is doing a "birthday cake"

ElectricDave is bringing a working display prototype of the metal gearbox conversion (..saw it today, it is awesome  )

Adam Harper is attending with a selection of Sinclair parts & accessories for sale - text him direct if you want a specific item to make sure he brings it along.

whitestone is bringing along his prototype c5

the rest of us are bringing along as many c5's as possible

If I've missed anything out let me know !

We're pretty much ready to go as well, but sadly not enough room to bring "Voodoo" along though  :'(  which is a real shame.

However, Steve and I did manage to squeeze five C5's into the big bus, and I've got two in my Estima - so shouldn't grumble at "only" bringing along seven c5's  :)

Hopefully we'll see everyone at Brooklands in the morning  ;D

hi all,

i just got back from C5-25 Brooklands, and wanted the say to all what a great day i had, really enjoyed putting faces on the members and talking to very informed people about their ideas and threw in some of mine.

not sure why, but surprisingly when i as down stairs there were many visitors obviously fascinated by the machines displayed downstairs but had not realised there was a full display available above the restaurant.

Kurt and i did our best and guided (ok strong armed  :o) quite a few in the 'right' direction, so i think we might even have won over a few more prospective forum members :)

A big thank-you once again to all those that came along today and helped us celebrate the 25th year of the Sinclair C5.

Brooklands did us proud with the function room which helped set the scene for a really good day. I am quite humbled by the fact so many people travelled such long distances just to see what we had put together. Oddly enough there were a lot of people from Northampton there, so Matt's poster obviously did the trick  ;)

There were many highlights of the day, some memorable sights and more than a few laughs - retroandy's display was very popular with the youngsters, umpas powerpoint show drew a nice crowd and the prototype twin motor c5 together with electricDaves gearbox display kept the techies happy. There really was something for everyone  8)

Here are a few piccies from the day;

..although it was a shame we didn't get chance to meet up for a natter, I can understand how you never found the time.

The amount of stuff going on must have meant all you Brooklands staff were running around non-stop all day  8)

The VSCC trials were awesome to watch, and I bet some of those drivers are real characters  ;D

i have to come clean people,

1) Kurt and i took a 'jolly' and drove round to the far side where Concord was parked, bombed about a bit then we came back.

i had dismounted and chatting by the clubstairs, but Kurt was still in his and took a real wigging of the marshal - sorry mate.

2) later i was talking to passing punters, doing my best to inform and guide them to the display upstairs, when the i assume local photographer turned up, oh dear he took photos of erm! - (please shhh! my C5).

as one of the C5 upstart newbs, i feel really really guilty, all those really far more worthy and longer owned and loved machines upstairs, and the really nice better ones parked below, and i get mine 'snapped'.

only saving grace was i was ot in it - i wonder if the members ever forgive me?  :-\

if anyone see's those pictures, i'll say sorry now and melt into a nearby pot hole.

regs (and really sorry)

Karl, was that your 'unopened' spanking new C5 I saw on a table there?  I noticed that one of the C5's had its footwell packaging still in place, so wondered whether that was one 'out of the box.

The new c5 is one of mine, it hasn't been used on the road and still has its original users pack containing the various leaflets, toolkit, charger etc.

The problem with owning a new one is that you can't really ever use it - since once you do, it stops being "new and unused"  :D

Umpa was busy with his video camera so once his life quietens down a bit I'm sure he will sort the footage out.

Some really excellent piccies there by radiomarty  8)

great day was had by all, and i'd say quite a few of the visitors who turned up for other attractions, unaware of the C5's 'show of force'.
