Title: Scoot-mobile or SinclairC5
Post by: frankev on 02, November, 2010 - 15:58:36
Just to start a chat.

Since I am handicapped and live in Holland, I had to have a transportation system that keeps me on the move and the government wanted to supply me a scoot-mobile. They have a special budget for this.
Since I have Rheumatic Arthritis, it is better for me to keep moving my self to, so I requested them not to give me this darn scoot-mobile but to give me money instead. I searched the net and came by an old Sinclair, for sale. I bought this and showed it at city hall. They where enthusiastic about it, but, being 25 years old, It was not a solution in their eyes for spending my "scoot" budget on. Then I found an "out of the box Sinclair", never driven for a single meter/yard. So my budget-keeper, enthusiast as she was about the old sinclair and knowing I had the other old sinclair as well, (for spares)  >:(  gave me permission to buy this "new" one from this budget ;D and now we are working to get it back on the road again. Through the official channels of course, so an "certified" bicycle repairman has to do all the work  :) and because I like to be active myself while riding the C5, good for my condition, he is going to build in a 7 gear shimano gearbox as well. So I can keep on peddling.

So end off this story, city hall saves about £ 20.000. That is because if they supply you a scoot-mobile they also build a garage-thing for it with electricity and change all the doors in the house so you can ride into the house as well. Meaning you have to have new carpentry as well, etc. etc.
And so I get my dream-machine. Life can be beautifull. ;).

I showed him the pictures and he says he can make it happen.

Hi there.

Thanks for your positive advertence. I'm the author of cypax.net.
Just to mention, the picture above shows the first version of the gear hub mounting which didn't survive just one ride. The forces acting on the attachment have been way too strong for that simple aluminium construction.
So I learned and build another mounting made of welded steel:

So far it worked very well.

Well done, I mean really, well done. I instruct my repairman to copy your work  :D
For me this is the perfect solution as I wrote above.
And as I understand now, your not german?

Before I found the Sinclair I was thinking about buying the Drymer.
Its coming on the market in december and I'm afraid I can't afford it.
Its a beauty though. I have driven it and can say it drives great. It drives like the
Hope for them it is not going to be the same story as the sinclair release in 1985.
