C5's in BBC Domesday Must See!!
« on: 12, May, 2011 - 14:27:03 »
To cut a long story short in 1986 the BBC did a project where people submitted data from all over the UK about where the lived etc. Which was all compiled onto laser discs. Until recently unless you had an old laserdisc setup and an Acorn BBC access to the data was impossible.

Anywhere today they have released it onto the BBC website and there some C5 bits on there from 1986!

First search brought up

Also

"Earlier this year 1985 there was a
rather special event in the Rhydycar
 Leisure Centre in Merthyr.Thousands
of people turned up to see the
 Sinclair C5 electric car.This was
being built at the local Hoover
 washing machine factory.Local people
were really excited about this because
if the car sold well it would mean new
jobs for Merthyr. We queued for ages
but at last were let in.As we went in
we were given tee-shirts,hats and pens
each with a picture of the C5 on the
front.I was surprised when I saw the
C5 it was made from a white plastic
 material.My father said the bodywork
was made all in one piece so it was
strong. It was very low and it had
three wheels, one at the front and two
behind. It had no steering wheel but a
 handlebar underneath the driver's legs
 It had no roof."

The inputted data was saved on 5" floppies. The laserdiscs contained map data, photos and extra program code as it is a read only medium

"THE SEA FRONT IN HERNE BAY
For the holiday makers there are
trampolines, a slide and a roundabout
on the beach and deckchairs can be
 hired.There is a children's holiday
show in the bandstand and also a small
track where people can try out the new
 Sinclair C5 electric tricycle."

It quite funny really, the C5 is mentioned a fair bit, even some kids were disappointed to not see one during a traffic survey.  It really captured everyones imaginations at the time.
