Title: Rear brake light
Post by: Lancealot on 12, January, 2011 - 20:18:30
Has anyone ever modified the rear brake system to use or to add additional rear light so that it can be seen that you are slowing or stopping. If anyone has please advise.

thanks

Lance

Thank Chas, but I was thinking something a little more suttle, Thinking of a micro switch against the movement of rear brake lever and changing the rear light to a car style twin bulb??????

Thanks Chas that has given food for thought. Any idea what gave the signal for the light to appear.

No sorry I only have the back light ,but like you said all it would take is to pick up the power from the harness and use a switch on the back brake arm ...Chas

A brake light is a great idea, although you don't seem to get to many people stuck behind you unless they are in a C5 aswell  :D
Although I think who ever made that one Chas has is a really good attempt, but I think if the holes could have been carefully drilled out round and then have the lights pushed into the lamp like the centre rear light it would be more effective.

Yes you are right about the holes but regarding pushing the bulbs closer to the front lens  is not possable due to the bulbs  already flush up to to the lens  .The only way is to put higher wattage bulbs in ....But like you said it would be ok if you are in a convoy  of C5s

Would it be possible to have the centre light as a stop and tail light like a motorbike etc ? Would save having to cut holes in the rear light and like you said about the bulbs touching the lense the centre light is made to have the bulb fitted in this way.

Hi i have ordered from ebay a pushbutton microswitch (£2.54) and plan to use it that when the rear brake is applied, the lever moves away from the microswitch and makes (n/o contact). I was thinking of using the permanent feed from X2 (+12v) & X7 (ov) from the control box or from an alternative point.

Does anyone know what current can be drawn from the above.

Hi the stop and tail light would be a good idea but I don`t think you would get one with the wattage you want ..
If you do please let me know     bye Chas
