Hi Kirubahran,

Firstly welcome to the forum we are all here to help.

Are using the original battery top if so here is a good alternative you just have to remember to get battery connectors (any car accessory shop, wilkinson stores, etc). Note that the connections are possible reverse do be carefull or you will kill all the electronics.

REMEMBER - The brown wires are +ve and blue -ve.

Hope this helps

A suitable alternative is the type 015 or type 038 car battery  ;

..the c5alive shop sells the clamps you need ;

Using a type 015 / 038 means you can keep using the Sinclair battery tops and the carry handles. Out of the two, the type 015 has the greater range but is more expensive than the type 038 .

Remember - it is ESSENTIAL that you get the polarity correct, failure to do so WILL cause damage to your control box and pod.

A better bet is to fit one of our c5alive wiring kits...much safer than just adding some battery clamps and more reliable than the ageing keyswitch system and you get to use any 12v car or leisure battery that fits in the allocated space  ;). Plus you then get to join the ongoing debate as to which is best - a car battery or a leisure battery  ;D

Can anyone supply me with the max height of a battery, without cover,  that will fit under the seat with the original C5 cover fitted?

I don't like the idea of purchasing a couple of batteries only to find they wont fit.

I think there is only one size that fits the original battery top and that is the 038 battery type. The sizes for that battery type are L(mm) W(mm) H(mm) 239 133 206.

Hi kamilb,

many thanks for the info. I did read a post sometime back concerning this subject, but I can no longer find it.

IIRC Karl mentioned another type, and coverman yet another.

a type 015 also fits the Sinclair battery top without modification.

If you're prepared to chop up your battery top you can cut it along the crease and it will then fit some leisure batteries - I think the terminals have to be 7 inches apart if I remember correctly .You could always measure the space to make sure. There were some piccies of this on the old forum..long since lost  :-\

Hi Karl,

I'm not after the type but the max height of only the battery,  that is one that can be used to take the battery cover.

I hope this helps.  I've been using a type 038 battery and the size is 200mm high to the top of the terminls. With the original key switch assembly fitted there isn't much room between it and the seat. So I'd not go for anything much taller than that.

When are we going to see a poll to find out what everyone's using? And before you ask, I don't know how to ;)

The only way to start a poll, "new topic", next too that there is a button saying "new poll" click on that. There must be another way but that's the only way I know  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
