Title: Brooklands Cycle Festival - Sunday 16th September
Post by: Karl on 17, November, 2011 - 08:58:01
The premier event of the c5alive calendar, I'm pleased to announce we've been invited back to the Brooklands Cycle Festival for 2012 on Sunday 16th September.  This has always been my absolute favourite event of the c5alive calendar - more details nearer the time.

For those that have never been before, check the archives for our previous visits;

An excellent venue, Brooklands has always been very supportive of c5alive.  This is a date well worth circling in your diary   8)

I have just received the following email from Donna at Brooklands Museum ;

CYCLE FESTIVAL
SUNDAY 16th SEPTEMBER  2012
INVITATION & ENTRY FORM

We are pleased to invite you to exhibit at our annual Cycle Festival on Sunday 16th September 2012.

The event is open to all types of non-motorised bicycles & scooters .
Besides enjoying the company of fellow enthusiasts and their cycles, exhibitors will have full access to Brooklands Museum’s 32-acre site and its attractions.  (The Concorde Experience is a charge of £4 Adults, £2 children).  There will also be the opportunity for your Team/Club to try out the circuit at Mercedes-Benz World, subject to conditions on the day.

There is no entry fee for the Exhibitors from your Team/Club or for children bringing a scooter who want to enter our Scootathon, but we would be grateful if you will complete and return the booking form if you wish to take part as Exhibitors with your Team/Club.
 Extra tickets at a discount on normal Museum entry prices can be purchased in advance using the attached booking form: please note that anybody arriving who are not exhibiting will be asked to use the Museum’s main public entrance and purchase the appropriate entry ticket.

As this is a one-day public event, we do ask that you commit to arriving by 10.00am and to staying on display until the 17.00 closing time.  No camping or overnight facilities are available. No dogs except Assistance Dogs are permitted.

If you would like to join us for a very enjoyable day, please complete and return the entry form as soon as possible. Final details & your Exhibitor passes will be sent out about 10 days before the event.  A stamped addressed envelope would be very much appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you shortly and seeing you at Brooklands Museum on September 16th.

Donna Hopton,
Event Manager.

It's great to see the list growing  :)

I visited Donna at Brooklands yesterday and she confirmed the tickets will grant access for a Sinclair C5 owner plus 1 , same as in our previous years coming to this event  8).

Access will be via the Campbell gate (again, same as in previous years) and the closing date for this list is Monday September 3rd  . This will give Donna time to print off our tickets and get them out to me. I will distribute the tickets on the day at the Campbell gate entrance. It's a system that has worked well for us over the years  ;)

There will also be a "scooterthon" for the youngsters so dont forget those scooters.

As before, remember to bring along your cycle helmet   . These are required for anyone taking part in the scooterthon and are also a requirement for anyone taking to the track at Mercedes Benz World. No crash hat, no entrance to the track (it's MB World's rules).

So, it's really shaping up to be a superb event especially with the Raleigh Chopper owners & other cycle clubs invited. Hope to see as many Sinclair C5's as possible , especially as this is our premier event and arguably the most fun.  Lets see if we can outnumber those Choppers again  :D

See you there !  ;D

Just a mad thought, but how about going round the MB World track on our c5's.....in fancy dress ?   Can you imagine the site of a dozen or so c5's trundling around the AMG test track with the pilots all dressed as superman/Elvis/Adam Ant or whatever ?

I've probably spent too long in the recent sunshine, but the idea made me smile  ;D

Anyone else think we should go for it ?

Going to be just me for this one, as it's a long day to leave the dog.  But i have been told that there must be photos taken  ;D

Talking of fancy dress, Emily reminded me, and i guess it's an important note ( i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong ), that cycle helmets still need to be worn on the test track ... so no 2ft high mohicans  ;D ;D

The tickets have now arrived  8)  As per previous years I , or a willing volunteer  ;D, will be at the Campbell Gate  entrance giving out the tickets to those on the list.

If you've never been before I advise reading this linked topic ;
 http://c5alive.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,245.msg1718.html#msg1718

..and escpecially this one from the Brooklands website;
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/your-visit/how-to-get-here/

Remember : Exhibitors and those bringing along a c5 use the Campbell Gate entrance ! All others to go via the usual public entrance found by following the brown tourist board signs.

There will be a scooterthon for those with youngsters , bring your own scooter and a cycle helmet.

If you want to take your c5 onto the AMG test track then you must bring a cycle helmet to wear on the track  . This is a M-Benz World insurance requirement and is not negiotiable so sadly, no crash hat = no fun on the track.

We will have our usual spot along the fence and our "playpen".

All that remains is for the sun to shine and for us to have a great time. See you all there  ;)

ps - fancy dress optional for those that want to add a bit of a laugh to the track session.
       if you need me to bring along any spares etc let me know beforehand .

I forgot to mention the important stuff about time of arrival  ::)

...Those that are exhibiting and using the Campbell Gate entrance will need to be on site for around 9am ,this is to allow time for us to set up our display and get the cars & trailers parked up before the gates are opened to the public at 9.30.

I ,or a c5alive rep, will be at Campbell Gate from around 8am (ish !) until 9.30am . If you arrive after 9.30 it may be best to use the normal Public entrance and car park, directions as shown on the Brooklands website or found by following the brown tourist signs.

That could be a bit early for me !
I have to run in a relay race for nearly 15 miles at 22.30 on Saturday evening from a Suffolk village. I aim to stay overnight somewhere so I may not get there until 10.
Sorry but I will get there !

Unfortunatly going to have to pull out of this one, sorry :(

Got loads of work related paperwork that needs sorting by Monday ( the joys of being an ex-treasurer for a preschool is that you get to go over it all again a year later when it's all gone a bit wrong  :o ;D ), plus we're finally getting our gas cooker fitted Sunday ( which should have been fitted 2 weeks ago but had to wait to get an electrician round due to dodgy electrics .. been a busy week  ;D ).

It's a shame that the fancy dress won't make an appearance but i'm sure it can be dragged out for another event ... have to organise the C5 Fancy Dress run  ;D

Hope you all have a great time, and looking forward to seeing the fancy dress pics  :D

Hello Everyone

Many thanks to Karl and Angie for arranging the day, also many thanks to radiomarty for helping me out with my broken control box and helping me fit the control box from 'half pint'  :D

Here is my flickr photoset of the photos me and my father took:

And here is a YouTube video I made of the photos and videos we took (It's available to veiw in 1080p HD for greater detail on the photos and video clips):

It was great seeing everyone again and I'm already looking forward to next year's cycle event!  ;D

Some excellent additonal piccies mate, good video as well.

It was great to finally have an event this year where the weather didn't ruin it , I still shudder when remembering Ardingly earlier this year !

Thanks to Pep for travelling all the way down from Rochdale and everyone else for travelling so far to support our main C5 event of the year . Seeing a few c5's sorted and back up to running was a great bonus to the day , especially as it allowed us to watch some nervous c5 owners 's venturing onto the track for the first time ever .

Overall a really good event and a positive close to this years events list. Despite the weather and my "day job" workload conspiring to wreck our events time table this year, we still managed to cobble something together and end on a bit of a high. All good.

Bring on next years event  ;)

ps - i might have "half-pint" rebuilt by then...poor thing was abused for spares  :o ;D
