Help needed
« on: 01, November, 2010 - 21:02:35 »
Im having problems with a couple of c5s Ive bought recently, im trying a couple of ideas out with the first with advice given to me by Karl ( thanks for the email), but today I had some bad news with my other c5. I got my second C5 sorted and have been using it for 2 days,  I then took it to a friends work and let him use it and all went well , but then while I was making a phone call someone else there took it for a spin and then rolled it.

As you can imagine i wasnt happy as it now has a few extra scrapes , but now it doesnt work now either, when it turned the battery quick release cables came off and I think he tried putting them on the wrong terminals . So now the lights work and nothing else not even a click or buzz I took off the cover to check the fuse and the 1 amp had blown so changed it but still nothing , what could be wrong any suggestions are welcome please, thanks

If you have reverse polarised it, then you will have damaged several components.

In the control box, have a look at R1, first that you have 12 volts on both sides, then the 5 volt regulator has 12 volts on one side and 5 on the other and also check D1.

The 5 volt regulator can be replaced with a 7805 from maplins or similar electronic shop.

I would think that the first two will need replacing, let us know how you get on ...

Have a look at this link, and follow it. It will give you some idea of what you are looking at.

Its not a major Job, you would need a solder iron, solder sucker and a test meter. Plus any replacment bits you would need.

There are a few others on the forum who can guide you more or may be able to sort it for you.

If I do at least check the bottom half of the box will I be able to tell if the items have gone visually , as in black marks etc, sorry for the questions as I said not good with electronics

The voltage reg wont be obvious, but the resistor R1 may show signs of being burnt.

Let us know how you get on.

If you're unsure, I agree it would be wise to trust the control box/pod repairs to someone else. You run the risk of inflicting further damage causing a salvageable control box/pod to be "written off"..and replacements aren't cheap. Here's the link to some repair options;

Thanks for all your advise, I think the best thing I can do is sell this C5 as a project for someone else to do.  It will give me time to try out the other C5 and get that fully working as I dont want to many projects at once and I probably wouldnt get round to doing 2 at the same time, so its best someone else can have some enjoyment out of it.
