Hi Simon,

is your battery an original C5 issue?

Hello

Yes I am presuming it's the one supplied with it from new.

I don't think the C5 has been used very much at all.  Obviously the battery was dry when I got it and I just topped it up and charged it.
It did charge and it did run for a while but not for long and I think power was dropping as it wouldn't pull up even the slightest of inclines.

Within minutes the battery indicator was on red and if it rested for a couple of minutes would go back in the green.  But then back to the red in a matter of yards.

I didn't think it would be useable really.

I am keen to keep the original look of the C5 as it is in very original looking shape.  That is why I am keen if possible to use the key switch.

Chas has informed me that if I use a different battery I can get a better range. I guess I need to work out the pros and cons of each available option.

The way I see it at the mo is that if I use the original battery I can't go far, so have to change it.

If I keep the key switch I have to use a specific battery that has a good range but not great.  The benefit is that I can keep the key switch and keep it original and slightly more secure. Oh I also run the risk of frying the control box as its easy to get the connectors mixed up.

If I fit the C5 alive wiring kit which I have I can use any battery of any type as long as it fits in the space.  I can't fry the control box as it has protection built in.  It will have better range but the cons are that I can't keep the key switch and it's a bit less secure. If I went down this route then I have no idea which battery to purchase.

Am I right?

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

are you technically orientated in electrical procedures?

Hi Simon - your understanding of the wiring kit opposed to the original battery top is pretty much correct - it is however pretty easy to add a key switch into the circuit of the c5alive wiring kit so you can then have the best of both worlds if you are wanting some more security  :) :)

The type 49 45Ah battery gives a reasonable range for low cost and fits under the battery top plate if used with Ford Transit type terminal connectors

Excellent thank you Coverman.

What brand do you think is best?

Also is the type of battery the 49 the physical size?

Thanks

Simon

Yes the type 49 defines dimensions and terminal type and possition. The Transit battery terminals are used on Ford Transits apparently(which series I know not) and I bought them for about £8/pair from my battery supplier.(SYBS)

Just a quick update to show the progress so far of the extras I have been collecting.  Just need to wire up the indicators.
(Oh and find a seat foam!)

There is only a C5 in the garden!!!

Thanks Danny. The garden is a wreck at the mo after the winter.
