Title: Hello from Mark in Oxfordshire England
Post by: mr-c5 on 12, January, 2015 - 13:45:49
Hello! I've been lurking a while and finally joined having now acquired a pair of C5's. Fancied one for years but didn't get around to it then got more keen in last years or so and finally following a spin on one locally before the New Year (cheers Dan) I asked around, funnily enough someone I knew had these available and I finally got hold of them on January 10th! the 30th anniversary.

I have keys and keylock tops but no batts or the battery covers. I'm looking to make cables and get a leisure battery or two and I see the parts are listed on the site to make such leads with links to ebay for the relay and quick release tops but does anyone have a diagram to follow with cable lengths and wire gauge etc and has anyone made these leads for themselves who can pass on any tips or hints on making them? I've wired various other things from houses to a solar rechargable 12v leisure battery into my folding caravan but no point reinventing the wheel as they say! Hoping to crack it before the weekend so I can have a go under power, got them running by pedal after fitting a new inner tube to one.

Looking forward to being part of the C5 community and some may have seen I've posted on the FB group

Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

welcome to the forum, hope you have fun with your new pets. :)

Concerning the leads, Chas has set of ready made cables with a safety feature (no damage to the system in the event of wrong polarity), plus a power switch is fitted.

The original cables have core dia. of 4mm, length approx. 80cm. But if you fit new leads you will also need to fit a power switch.

Circuit diagrams can be found on the home page/downloads.

Ah yes introducing a switch to replace the keyset makes sense. I got a Yuasa 24ah battery off a friend tonight which has different connectors which might be a goer and with a possibility of a second one taking it to 48ah plus being free it's worth a try. I'm also doing this all as a little project to teach my lad who is 7 about such things so making it ourselves was something that I had wanted to involve him with doing otherwise yes I think buying one ready made is a sensible option as it's a proven! Thanks for the pointers and quick responses too.
