Title: Filming : Reading 11 Feb '09
Post by: Karl on 18, December, 2008 - 15:43:26
This is genuine ;

Dear Karl,

It was great to talk to you today - I will be in touch very shortly with more news.

As mentioned, we would be really keen to hire a C5 from you for filming (early Feb 2009). We are also keen to look into the possibility of doing some filming with your C5 group - would this be of interest? Are you planning to have a meeting in February?

We are going to be based in Reading - would a few of you would be interested in travelling to Reading for some filming with our Technology Team - this is still being thought through but I wanted to run it past you. The date would be mid-Feb.

My contact details are below - please feel free to drop me a line anytime.

With best wishes!

Tom

So , I'm looking for people to join me in Reading  ;D !

Anyone else up for some "lights,camera,action" ?   8)

top man - you could always borrow "Dave" if needs be  :D.

we now have a date for this filming - Wednesday 11th Feb !

Being mid-week might cause a few snags for us as it means I've got to book the day off work, which I guess will also apply to most of us. But it should be worth it , coz how often do we get asked, as a group, to take part in something like this   8)

Full details of venue etc etc to follow...

A brief update on this project ;

It will be going ahead as planned on the 11th February '09, and will be in the Reading area.

At this stage, the organiser has asked for a bit of discretion and that full details are not published at this time. We can say that it will involve filming for a BBC4 technology series. Those that know some more of the details are asked not to post them just yet.

Further details about the location and filming content will posted next week.

So those that want to take part should book the day off work and clear their diary for the day  8)

p.s. next week I'll be asking for confirmation from those that want to attend so I can give the organiser some idea of numbers.

That's excellent news mate , thanks for letting me know. If anyone else is able to confirm they will definately be attending it would be most appreciated  ;)

The date has been confirmed, and I have the location - which will be posted a little later. This is an extract from an email Tom (the organisor) ;

Dear Karl,

.... At the moment, there are slight tweaks to the filming schedule. We are still very keen to film with yourself and C5Alive .......but are just confirming the final details ......

With best wishes

Tom

The latest email , edited for now to as I promised to be discreet  ;

Dear Karl,

I am a colleague of Tom ..........  and am overseeing the setting up of the filming on Weds 11th Feb.

In practice, we are hoping that the C5 drivers can meet somewhere in the Cavendish Heights area (postcode RG4).   This would enable us to set the scene up and get ready to film the cars going down the road to ..........

We have now started filming and are looking for an exact location for this liaison point.  We need to notify the council.

What would be useful for our planning is to know how many transportation vehicles C5 Alive will be coming with, and rough idea of their size - because we'll need to select a rendezvous point with suitable parking.

At a rough guess - what would be a likely number?  Can we put a limit on it or will this not be necessary.

We are likely to meet at 1000.   Would it be possible for C5 Alive to get to Reading that early?

With thanks and best wishes

Zara...................

It is all going ahead , and I've replied that 10am would be okay  and that I anticipate about 6-8 C5's taking part.

Could all those who want to participate in this please let me know now so that I can confirm the numbers with Zara.

Full location details etc will be released nearer the time.

Hi Karl

Thanks for including me in the list of people for Reading. I'm up for it and I'll get the day off work.  :)
I started to write down the other dates for '09 in my diary - but I ran out of space in it. [Memo to me: Go to WH Smiths tomorrow and get a bigger diary]

phew , what a day  :D

I've emailed Zara to say a big thank you for looking after us all - I've also asked for confirmation that it's okay for us to post all our piccies. I don't see a problem putting up pictures like Martins one as they do not specify exactly what was being filmed. I just want to make sure we don't cause any problems by pre-empting any publicity etc

I'll let everyone know once I've received a reply  :)

Glad you got home okay mate , bit of a grim journey for you - but hopefully worth it.  Now that you're going to be a TV star, as well as a rock god, we might have to start selling autographed T-shirts  :D

A big thank you to everyone who struggled through the flooding,roadworks & grid-locked traffic. I think it says alot about the support this forum enjoys that everyone turned up. We made a really good impression on the filming crew and hopefully they got some good footage that will be used in the programme.

I reckon the day went very well and it was nice to have a (free) meal together  aswell 8)

Can't wait for the programme to be shown now (possibly April ?)

I've had a reply from Zara;

Hi Karl

Thanks for your email and glad you got sorted and home safely in the end.

Would you mind asking the guys to hold off before posting photos on your forum.  We need to wait until after the programme goes out.

I will be moving onto another project soon - so to be absolutely sure, please email Conor before you post them onto your forum.

In the meantime, I will let Conor know that you will be in touch.  Am sure that they will be really interested in seeing your shots, as it was a fun day and the conoy of C5s looked excellent.

Many thanks

Zara

I'm happy with the piccies that have been posted so far, as long as none of them feature the actual "venue" and the people being filmed we should be ok.

If anything changes, I'll let everyone know.

Just been watching it on BBC Four.  Looks great.  Check it out!  Tonight is the 70's.  Next time it's the 80's.

Just seen Sir Clive being interviewed about his calculators.  The lady interviewing him said that she was asked to mention to him that he's been the real inspiration and hero to many people.  He truly is a great guy.  Having said that, I don't actually know him, but he had a lot to do with the C5, so that makes him a great guy in my mind.

Hope to see the C5 on the next show!

Watching this was a great trip back down memory lane, I either remmebered we had or someone we knew had most of the gadets featured in it, The relaigh choppers were a big hit with the kids, although the mum was'nt happy with her son for going into town with no lights, so I guess when a Sinclair C5 arrives thats that problem sorted  ;D

yeah - it was a fun day, I remember being unsure if we would all be able to get to the venue. The recent snows had just thawed causing widespread flooding, plus the motorways were gridlocked.

All worked out ok in the end though, and we were treated to free lunch and drinks by the film company.

Best part of a whole days filming for a few minutes on the screen, wonder what they will do with the rest of the footage ?

I'm thinking of selling "Dave" , the C5 used in this filming and also in Chris Barries programme..

It's TV fame makes it quite a special C5  8)

The funds could then be channelled back into some C5 projects I've got on the go..

The biggest drawback is I really dont want to let "Dave" go  :-[

I have offered this before to others Karl, if its space required then I could always look after another C5 in my garage if it helps, the offer comes with no storage charge and I will also happily take it out once a month to blow off the cobwebs.
