Yeah I had to do the same I managed to get my blood pressure up to about 250 PSI

I was seeing stars ( I dont mean George Clooney n Sienna Miller either ) by the time I got the wheel in to position

guys, what wheels are you using ?

The last two steel wheel conversions I did was with wheels from Halfords, and they just bolted straight on with no problems whatsoever   :P

Mind you, the last one was metallic pink.... :o, so perhaps not so perfect after all  ;D

tried halfords

I left not sure they had ever seen a bike before

Karl

I have to say, my local Halfords have been really great. They tend to sell me the steel front wheels from kiddies bike that they have raided for spares.

On a different note, I purchased two of the steel wheels from the ebay seller mentioned earlier and they are okay  ;).

Yes I had to investigate the front wheel! ::)
The seller says that this item is a brand new aluminium front wheel not steel. 8)
That's what made me buy it. ;)
Looks cool too. 8)

I fitted one of these "Ebay" wheels to Martin's C5 - and had the same problems you guys experienced. Got round it by removing the locking nuts and using some washers. Works well , but not as trouble free to fit as the Halfords wheel.

Aluminium always dissipates heat better than steel - that's why it's used as heatsink material.

It's pretty irrelevant as most of the weight is over the back wheels! I've sourced a cable operated brake caliper and am looking at mounting a disc on the rear axle.

You're right about the brakes being quite poor.

He's done a superb job on that rear brake
