..something similar to those were issued to servicemen that lost limbs during the two world wars, usually wealthier officer types I'd imagine .

I think we've seen that before, before it was restored ? I was looking at a non electric one the other day at Lulworth castle on display.

I'm sure I heard, on QI or something, that all cars were electric at first. But petrol became for popular because (back then) it was much more readily available and batteries were crap.

I'm sure I also heard the diesel engine was invented to run on peanut oil but once again the fossil fuel was more readily available.

Anyone else heard this?  ???

Electric cars and steam were quite common in the US over 100 years ago, more so than petrol cars. I think the switch to petrol came about because they had vast quantities of it left over as a byproduct of refining over things.
