Does anyone use their C5 to commute?

Hello all

I am just wondering if anyone uses their C5 everyday or for the purpose they were intended?

Love to hear stories of how far people go, reliability, people's reactions and general experience.

All I used to read when it was launched is that it's a disaster and a death trap!

Thanks.

I do! :D

I do at least 4.5 miles a day in mine, sometimes in the rain & snow. I've only suffered one breakdown - a seized bearing in the gearbox which turned into a £100 repair. I often go over it and give it a good grease up but have had a couple of noisy bearings which needed replacing. People's reactions are generally positive, I get regular waves from a few people in the morning. I can't remember the last time someone made a negative comment.

I commute at roughly the same time every day so people have got used to it now and I don't have any regular intimidating encounters.

That's brilliant. So they can be used daily and what they were intended for.

What parts do you regularly grease up and how often is regular?

Do you go on busy roads or cycle paths?

Thanks

Not that it's to do with my C5, but I use used cooking oil in my Xantia so technically it's even cheaper for me to take that to work than the Sinclair ;-)

They certainly can if looked after. I wash it and grease all wheel bearings and the motor & gearbox every 6 weeks or so. I use rather busy B roads, if you look on Google Maps, I go from Banham Norfolk to Old Buckenham, you'll get an idea of the sort of roads that they are.

Brilliant.  I need to give mine a good service.
