Chain Tensioner

The plastic clip that holds the chain tensioner to the chassis on my favourite c5 (aka "Voodoo") was coming unclipped.

So I followed Martins advice on his c5Martin website and got the cable ties out 





That should sort it 

Mind you, looks like Voodoo could do with a bit of a clean up - looking quite grubby underneath

Anyways how do you get off that gubbins on the bottom of the C5? That sticky stuff on the grey part of the body.

Its a lot cleaner now, I used a hosepipe and a bucket of soapy water

I Seem to have a problem with my c5 chain under moderate to hard pedaling the chain comes off often it seems to me that the spring is not working correctly ( not very springy)   does this happen after time and can you buy a replacement spring thanks marc.

Hi there you probely find that the old chain has streched .You may need a new one ...

Thanks chas andy is going to give me the sizes for the chain so hopefully this will fix that  little problem.

This won't necessarily stop the chain tensioner from coming unclipped - but it does save you from having to run back and try to find all the missing bits

Is there anywhere i can get a new chain for my C5, i did have a spare that i got from Adam Harper, but had to use it a while ago. I now have C5 No 3 and the chain is Rusty as hell and is not useable and beyond saving.

How sucessful is joining two bike chains together, Are the links the same size as a standard bike chain ?

Any ideas ....

I have used Halfords bike chains on a couple of c5's now and they work ok - just a slight amount of chain slip when struggling up a hill (similar to a genuine Sinclair chain !). As correctly mentioned earlier, you will need two to make the correct length.

You need the wider chain for a single speed bike, thinner chains meant for deraileur gears are too narrow and dont fit round the C5's sprockets.

To get the black blurry stuff off to work on a clean surface, use a bit of diesel and a brush.
Works all the time.
