I know this is basic stuff chaps but I always thought that the Mark 1 had a grey boot and the Mark 2 had a white boot. Is that correct is is it the other way round as I keep reading conflicting info???????? ???. Any real buffs out there know what date the Mark 2 was introduced ????

It's funny you should ask that.  The video I posted the other day shows a guy claiming that his grey boot model was a mark2, but I too have heard different...

The grey boot is the mark one,and for safety, the boot was made more visible by making it light.

As Ray says, and remember boots are changeable.

mine is a mk2 with a grey boot i thing its to do with the brown finger thing as well ps no brown finger jokes please  ;D

Umpa

yes all Mk2's had the white fingers, I guess there could be a few Mk2's with brown boots, I guess Karl might know.

My Mk1 has white fingers - coz I fitted them - lol

radiomarty

Ok so : Mark one - grey boot with brown fingers , Mark 2 white boot with white fingers (unless they have been upgraded)

Thanks chaps - I'M not going mad !!! :)

That's probably okay as a "rough rule of thumb" , but my first c5 had a grey boot and cream fingers - so it's a case of having to take a very close look at any c5 you're intending to buy.

automino

with the exception of boots and fingers, why on earth would you want to buy a mark 2 over a mark one.  Provided that that fingers are the cream ones what else matters?

Umpa

Well - I don't think its a matter of wanting to buy a Mk2 - its more a case of there are more mark 2's so chances are they are the ones for sale.

I'm a lucky chappy and have one of each..

Life's good !!

I think the boot colour is a bit of a red herring , the c5's are obviously all very similar.

There are several differences that aren't so obvious - the main one being the spec of the motor.

Adam Harper told me that there are three variants , some being slightly quicker on the flat than standard, whilst some others were better going up hills, but were also slower on the flat.

We're not talking massive differences here, just a few mph , and it was down to the windings in the motor. There is no way of telling them apart unless you dismantle the motor and count the windings.

Other differences are the width of the final drive cog coming out the gearbox where some are much wider than others.

Starting to sound a bit like an anorak now so I'll end it there  ;D

Umpa

For me the definition is :-
White boot and white fingers is a Mk2,
Brown boot and brown fingers is a Mk1 (original)
Brown boot and white Fingers MK1 (replacement fingers)

I think the other variants like windings and drive cogs were a work in progress thing, just fixing things that cropped up.  I guess the only way to tell is look at the Vehicle number - that will give you the manufacture date regardless of the boot or motor.  It goes with without saying that the shell could also be on a different chassis - but that's going a bit far.

I wear my anorak with pride :)

Brown boot ? I thought they were either Grey or White. have you got your boots and fingers mixed up Umpa  ;D
