More details to follow, we've been invited to attend the Battery Vehicle Society (BVS) Electrathon. This is being held at the Shakespeare County Raceway,near Stratford on Avon on 25th & 26th September.

Some info from the BVS forum;
In 2009, we had the centrally-divided drag-strip as part of the circuit
(out one side, back the opposite side, enlarged-radius turns each end)
For 2010, we plan a larger circuit having many more turns, on another part of the airfield - HOWEVER - the drag-strip is again part of the deal.....
AND
We plan a separate, non-competitive circuit, on which people may try an EV, under supervision, for the first time, or to experience something different
AND
We have been trying to devise more varied "EVents" to add to the program
AND
You have caused me to think on a bit
SO
Drag-racing or 1/4-mile sprinting sounds like a brilliant idea to me
All the best
Ed
PS....
There has been an enjoyable discussion re electric aircraft on the committee forum in the last few days...

I'll publish some more info closer to the date - should be a really good weekend  8)

Some pictures from the 2009 event are on this link;

we can't really do speed, so perhaps they would like a 'PIMPED C5" parade to show what can be done to give EV's more street cred?

techytype

just to flesh out my last post, if enough members were interested in showing, perhaps we could have a few sections such as

'restored to original spec'

'improved/souped up' i.e disk brake conversions/24 volt - rocket power whatever (but faster than original spec).

'pimped up' for those that have done brilliant makeover works as the likes of 007 and Cobolt Blue' to show whart can be done on a small budget.

if you think about how much is spent into custom car hobbies the interest (from the thus far unaware) could be spectacular.

Karl

..cant use rocket power, its an electric only event  ;)

But it would be an excellent opportunity to view some seriously cool electric vehicles and meet up with some knowledgeable people.

As its the c5's 25th year I feel it important we make an appearance  :).

Karl

Just a reminder, the BVS electrathon is also coming up in September.

If you want to bring along your own c5 to display at the event, it is free to enter.
If you want to take it out onto the track there is a £25 fee;

Free entry to the event
£25.00 one-time fee for each competitor racing
(that £25.00- fee is in fact a small contribution to the serious costs involved for the BVS)
(for example; meeting regulations and having Public Liability cover)
Major thanks to Shakespeare County Raceway for their help, advice, and can-do attitude
(without their generosity, there would not be an EVent)

All EVs of ANY description welcome
Those who bring a machine will merit the "Order of Tesla" for aid of the cause
Lots to see and do over two days
September Saturday 25th. and Sunday 26th. 2010
Venue is Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford on Avon
(Site formerly known as "Long Marston Aerodrome")
More very soon

I'm hoping to be there with Challenger and Voodoo along with ElectricDave and the c-5000  8)

If anyone else wants to join in I could bring along the gazebos and have a c5alive display.

I am interested, will depend on work load ...

Let you know in a week or so.

Matt and myself - are you planning on camping over or just one day ?

giles

Typical, you lot are coming to Stratford on the weekend when the Imp Club have their end of season bash in Wales which I will be at.... I hope you all have a lovely time at the raceway, if you want resturant recommendations in stratford the best two are, 'No. 9 Church Street' and 'Malbec Petit Bistro'.

Cheers, Giles

I asked the organiser about camping, here's the reply ;
  Sorry, I forgot to mention
Plenty of camping space
Shower block peak times/if required
Toilets 24hrs
Normally a remarkably quiet place at night
Last year I slept like a baby Friday and Saturday nights
Half-wakened for a minute or so as security drove by a few times
One time they were gently herding some kids off the site
Otherwise peaceful
Huge noise-attenuation wall on two sides
Terrific night sky due to no local light pollution
Woke feeling refreshed
Looking very likely there will be more on-site food stalls this year
All the best
Ed

I'll see if electricDave is game for some camping...might have to break out the c5alive Tesco tent once more  ;D

I could be up for this. Will confirm soon. £25 on the day for the track is it?

yes...and... no   ;D

If you only want to use the demo track and not enter anything competitive then it is free.

If you want to go out and compete then you have to pay.

Might be worth deciding on the day when you get there.

I've contacted the organiser to say that the two modded c5's will hopefully be there, and that we would like camping space as well.

I'll see what reply I get and take it from there  :)

Karl

Further to the earlier enquiry about camping, I've received this reply from the BVS organiser;
There is an area for camping and it is available from about 3:00 p.m. on Friday. There are toilets but no showers.

There is no need to book. My colleague Ed Gordon will be on site from Friday afternoon and I'll be there from abaout 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Kind regards

John

I'm planning on getting there early Saturday and camp overnight into Sunday - weather permitting. Getting too old to brave the worse of the elements  :P
If anyone else wants to join us it looks as though you just need to turn up , no booking required.

Sadly due to swapping onto the 'other' shift my shift pattern is now opposite what it was !!!! Sorry Karl not going to be able to make it now - dam ! :-[

Karl

That's a shame, thought Matt might have liked a whizz about on Voodoo.....and electricDave had a pleasant surprise lined up for you :-X.

Never mind, maybe next time  :)
