I t may or may not be of interest to know that an elecric vehile raced at Brooklands in 1926 in a Short Handicap event(this title describes the nature of the race, not the drivers' problems). The electric "racer" was a truck used on railway stations to move freight, and it was ballasted with 2 tons of wet sand in bags and given aprroximately a one and a half hour start over the proper racing cars, which were some of the fastest of the day.The electric vehicle managed a 5mph standing start lap which to everyone's surprise translated into 5.5 mph approx mph flying laps as they thought the vehicle would slow down as the batteries lost charge(which proves my point about batteries being heavier when filled with electricity-NOT) and this Greenbat truck actually won the event by 32 seconds. To prevent boredom of the crowd whilst the handicap time ticked slowly away, the racing cars practiced cornering on an unusedn of the track.

I have the tickets and will arrange for someone to be at the gate to hand them out.

The Brooklands organisers ask that we all be on site and set up ready by 09.30am when the gates are open to the public. Sorry for the early start, even more so for those travelling from further afield.
The itinerary has not yet been published...I'll post the details once I have them - but it may be similar to last year where we get told on the day  :)

Hopefully the weather will settle down for a nice sunny day on Sunday  :)

Karl

From the Brooklands site, the programme of events;
September 12th 2010
Cycle Festival ;Accompanied children bringing a scooter and a crash hat will be admitted to the Museum free of charge and there will be a scooter race for children aged 5-12 years at 11 o'clock.

At midday, Sinclair C5s, Raleigh Choppers and bicycles will attempt the famous Brooklands Test Hill.

From 2-4pm there will be C5 demonstrations and the Brooklands Handicap Race for bicycles on the track at Mercedes-Benz World. Raleigh Choppers will also be in action on the track.

Entry for bicycles and support vehicles will be via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road. Public parking will be in the Museum car park accessed via Mercedes-Benz World.

Just a reminder guys - Don't forget your cycle helmet if you want to take a c5 onto the Mercedes Benz Test Track

I'm aiming to be at the site for around 8.15am...see you at the gate if you get there early  :D

The weather forecast looks ok for Sunday , so fingers crossed we are in for another superb day.

whoops i don't have one, hard hat ok?

Alan

Don't know, but I doubt it....the insurance requirement is for a cycling helmet to be worn so (I'm guessing) it's unlikely a hard hat will acceptable. They won't allow you on the track if they're not happy ,and as they're only about £6 from Tesco, it might be worth picking one up.

If not, a motorcycle helmet was ok last year .

Retro Andy

Thanks for the heads up Karl, as I would have forgot to bring one.

Retro Andy.

Must be one of those day's : Tried and tried in vain to fit two adults, two children, one C5 and the C2.5
into the Zafira but no joy - Will have to leave the wife - opps I mean the C2.5 at home  :( - I then took the restored C5 I am bringing along for a test drive and got a puncture ! - then picked up the scooter for Matt and the wheel fell off (if anyone has one he can borrow we would much appreciate it) so I am looking forward to a better day tomorrow - see you there. :)

MikeDX

Looks like we are still on for this, but we may be later than 9:30

If thats the case, will we sitll be "allowed" in the c5 paddock?
