Title: Metal gearbox.
Post by: marra on 05, November, 2010 - 18:43:09
Hi. To those involved in or with c5alive with the metal gearbox, will this be sold via the c5 shop or will it be limited volume. Hope to see it available sometime following new year.  ;D

..electricDave is working on a better alternative. We don't think the present one will be financially viable, even though the gearbox itself works really well. The problem lies with the original c5motor - it just isn't really up to what we want to achieve, even in 24v format with maxxed out controller. Voodoo's performance at this years AER simply highlighted the problem.
I don't think any of us would be happy paying big money for a conversion that causes damage to the motor in the long term.

This detour means we may take a little longer, but it will be worth it.

Has anyone approached adam Harper in him having one made ? Even if he had firm offers from this site, maybe yourself and E,Dave could combine together on this.

Only a thought. not trying to diss the efforts from those on here that have done the R + D so far. ( inc all the costs ) Just wondered if Adam already had something lined up that needed ' Tweeking '. then ' Porthos ' and ' Aramis ' could put right .... or whoever they prefer to be. ( Athos was the other )

I did have a "metal" gearbox from Adam Harper fitted to "moneypit", sadly it was destroyed when fitted to Jason Bradburys maxxed out 24v c5. That is why we moved to an alternative gearbox, but in doing so seem to have shifted the reliability problem along the line to the motor.

If you want extra oomph it seems it will be at the cost of originality...

Aint bothered at originality when it cannot been seen. I can wait, funds ready for the ' OOMPH ' .  ;D

i have mentioned this elsewhere,  but is the reliability answer not in a new metal gearbox, but to use a larger 'cog' on the rear wheel and repositioning the motor (dumping the original planetary gearbox)?
