How many miles (Roughly) Would an 85Ah battery get me?

I managed 18Mls on one 85Ah battery.
It will depend on hills etc.
I do very little peddling!

Like Martin says, battery range is variable - so many factors have an influence.Things like ;

Weight of the rider , age and condition of the battery, air temperature (yes really, the temperature affects the battery chemistry) , tyre pressure , wheel bearings , terrain and how much pedalling you want to do.

As an aside, the Battery Vehicle Society have suggested using Lithium Ion power packs. The plus side is far greater range and a huge weight reduction, they weigh about one third of the weight of lead/acid battery's. :)

The downside is huge cost (£500 for a C5 :o) and complex battery management systems. Proper charging and maintenance is essential,or they die a horrible death. Bit too fragile for my liking and not cost-effective  enough.  :-\

I take it a car battery is a No no then? XD
Cause they seem to be fairly cheap for the Ah you get out of them...

I have to say, car batteries worked well on our London-Brighton run. We used a mixture of type 063 and type 038.

I'm still using type 063 on my 24v C5.

For a standard 12v C5, I would recommend the 70ah Halfords leisure battery.

I found Halfords a bit expensive for leisure batteries , I got my 80AH leisure battery at a local caravan dealer for £45

Its an orange fella did approx 10miles in Wales , it was brand new so it didn't do too badly as I understand it takes a few charge and discharge cycles to get them going at full tilt

My experience of them is that they fail to perform.

As in Mark's post, the range of my c5 was dire when I used them for Bournemouth.

I'm not tempted to buy them again.

Mine must have been an older version of the NUMAX, it had a green battery casing.

I think it had the L85 code on it though.

Who knows, they might have improved ?  But for now I'm sticking with the Halfords one ;)
