I've changed up to 24v. I have used 6mm2 wiring across the board. All driving fine, and a 24v 150CFM fan to cool the motor.
I noticed after a short run (a couple of minutes to go round the block) that the connector wires are warm (not hot). Should I be concerned, or is that normal given the current they are handling?

Only if one joint is noticeably warmer than the others then I'd worry about that, it might point to a bad connection you may need to re-make. But the cables you have are rated for 70A continuos rating, so peaking above that now and again should be ok.
The motor will pull high current if it's going uphill, so if you are going uphill a lot it might be all it is. Try it on the flat for a bit and see how it is. I took mine out for a 10 mile round trip the other night and the motor was warm to the touch, but that was coming up a long hill at the end of the trip, but as I use jump lead cable for my main power cables I've not seen an issue.

I've just had another, longer spin out - all fine, but the fast connector plug between my battery and my wiring is not up to the job. I melted it.
I need to find a connector plug that can handle the power rating. Back to ebay!

Not a problem I've encountered I'm glad to say, I have bolted connections on my batteries, so the 35A crimp connections are well up to the job.
Before that I was on Car Battery terminals.

What type of 6mm cable have you used. It does make a difference with the current it can utilise.

My wiring was hot when i took mine for its first run aprox 20 miles. I drove back home and notist my wiring was walm. Still works and drives at the moment so i shouldnt be worried yet untill if it breaks!
