Is not very clear for me the real purpose of this piece ... has it some role in motor alignment ?

It stops the Motor/ Gearbox falling off the plastic fence it sits on, this tends to bend and the gearbox falls off and then off comes your belt and then your problems start.

This was always a problem and this was the answer to stop it, you can get the same effect with a large cable tie to stop the fence flexing.

...as Plod says, it keeps the motor/gearbox properly positioned in its mounting.
