Replace the right bearing
« on: 14, November, 2010 - 08:37:07 »
How to lift off the right bearing from the axale bar ?

Is it adequate a simple puller like this ?

In your experience, is the bearing a standard item to be bought at auto parts dealer ?

 :)

Hi  - I have managed to use a three leg puller like the one you showed however some are a lot harder to remove than others - yes it is a standard bearing sill made  - if you contact Chas I believe he sells them.

Thanks, Radiomarty !  :)

Tonight i'll try to slip it out the axale: it is a little rusty, noisy and it runs unevenly ...

PS Might be worth soaking it in WD40 or something similar before hand - good luck

If you have the axle off, and the bearing is shot then heating the bearing (not the shaft) with a plumbers torch or on a gas ring if wife not watching ;), expands the bearing and aids removal.

After last brillant work (when i used the oven to dry the my Austin Cooper's airbox painting), when my wife sees me in the kitchen with some mechanical bit in the hands begins to get restless, and is prone to kick me off ...

You have simply got to learn the nobel art of negotiation - offer part ownership of the tv remote :) :) :).

Arfur
I did that with my strife - i ended up with the 'OFF button :)

My axle bearing required several tonnes of force to remove using a press.

Sounds less trouble than the strife's purse then :).

Karls favourit saying is adapt, modify and overcome, wonder if I showed sn early potential -:

As a young very  driver, I had greif getting the centre nut off the rear wheel of a VW camper, so had a bright idea, jacked it up, attached socket, long bar and a 5 foot lump of scaffold tube. Wrested the tube on an axle stand Si it would not damage the bodywork or road.

Started up engine, engage gear, hefty amount if revs, let out clutch suddenly to jerk the nut free - BANG! pause sound of breaking glass - i collected said scaffold pole from neighbours car wind screen 40 get away

The plan fell down Why?

because I should have selected REVERSE!
