Flashing yellow lights on the pod!
« on: 26, January, 2012 - 13:51:02 »
I have only owned my C5 for a couple of weeks, not really knowing if it works or not as its been in someones garage for many many years. I have just installed a C5alive wiring kit and I charged a 065 battery. Once connected up the right hand pod lights show full charge, the front light works along with the indicators.
The left hand section lights on the pod just flash on and off. Only the far left and right yellow lights remain on showing that it is in the Drive position but the motor does not spin.
The left lights show motor load but as it is on a work bench there is no load to the motor.
Any ideas on what may be the matter with it?
Thanks

Karl

...in addition to my earlier email, it might be worth reading through this link ;

as well as checking a few other things by way of a process of elimination you'll get here in the end. To check it's not the motor brushes or dropped magnets try the following ;

Does the motor turn freely by hand in both directions ?

Does the motor run if directly connected to a battery ? To do this release the motor cables from the control box and place the cable ends directly on to the battery terminals.   Make sure the necessary safety precautions are in place first ie wheel off the ground etc.

You also need to check the go switch is ok , can you hear a healthy click when it is pressed and released ?

Lastly, if after checking all this it all points to control box/pod fault then you could try radiomarty for check/repairs;

Hi Richie - If the problem still remains after the checks BOO BOO has suggested have been carried out  then your pod is displaying the motor protection safety cut out fault-there are a number of things that can cause this problem - Firstly the op amp in the control box or the associated transistors - also the condition can come from a faulty ULA chip but this is worse case and normally the fault will be within the control box - if you are handy with electronics I would look into the parts I have suggested - if not you are welcome to send it to me for bench testing. If you need any further assistance please ask - Regards Radiomarty

Do I then need to remove the pod and take all the connecting wires out of the black box from under the boot area and send them to you?
It is quite annoying knowing that it could be something silly causing the problems!!
I connected the motor directly to the battery and it works.

or one thing at a time.
Pod 1st cus thats easy to remove. Could that if faulty be the problem?
If that is ok once tested, then do I go for removing the black control box?
Cheers

Hi Richie - it would be best if you send me both the pod and control box together as I can then make sure there is onlythe one fault - you will need an 8mm and 7mm spanner for the power connections all the others are push fit connectors.

Well Marty has done his magic.
The Pod and control box are all fitted back on the C5 and it lives again!
I bet my C5 has not be up and running for at least 10 years.
Now to service the motor and gear box and clean it up properly. Out comes the JIF!
