Hi,
I have just purchased a C5 after being without one for a few years.
I ran out of space when I had 3 so I sold them.
I now have a bigger garage so I thought I would treat myself!
The C5 that I have bought was still in the box after 24 years!
I am after a battery and battery top kit.
Does Adam Harper still supply these?
Cheers

Nice one ;)
I've also got an unused one that I use for display, the battery top and charger should be in the small brown box that comes with the c5 - also includes the RoSPA safety guide, registration papers, toolkit, brochure etc
If it's missing then Adam can sell you unused battery tops and he sells replica batteries as well.
Welcome to the forum mate, hopefully you will be able to join us on a few of the meetings :)
Just a thought, you might want to give your "new" C5 a bit of an overhaul before using it. When changing the original perished inner tubes on mine I noticed that all the wheel bearing grease (and there wasn't much !) had gone hard, and resembled a type of wax :o
Martin lists some guidance on his site ;
http://www.c5martin.co.uk/c5_help.htm
...copied here ;
LUCKY PEOPLE WITH NEW C5s
If you are one of the lucky people to have one of the latest batch of NEW SINCLAIR C5s just remember that it is still a 20 year old vintage vehicle.
The grease will not have moved and may have hardened especially in the gearbox.
If you do not intend to replace the grease in you gearbox, I would suggest that you jack up your C5 and run the motor with no load on it for 30 minutes. The running of your motor with no load will help to remove any possible manufacturing defects on the gearing and help to rejuvenate the grease. The best option would be to strip down the gearbox and replace the grease with? (The choice of grease is debateable I use LM grease. You make your own choice.) Also most important, if one is not fitted, is to fit motor mod type bracket that can be purchased from me C5martin. Also think carefully about replacing the drive belt with one of C5ALIVE’s wider ones. This is much cheaper in the long run than trying to find a replacement gearbox. Keep an eye on your tyres and inner tubes as they are also 20 years old most of the original inner tubes are of a poor grade rubber and are porous.
If you need more advice I am on the end of a phone.
I do not have one of the New Sinclair C5 and am very jealous!

A Big welcome dude,
I have just bought one too. I was following your C5 auction on ebay & it looks a nice machine.
I hope you have as much fun with yours as I am having with mine.

I was going to bid, but missed out. =[ They were sold just round the corner from me, by TurbineCharm. It looks like they went through all the boxes and took out the sought-after items, because I think a replacement battery was supplied with them. if I were you I'd keep it in the box, or keep the box at least, it could be worth a bit more with it later. Anyway good luck!!!!

Welcome back the the fun, do you think you will use it on any of the runs ?

I took it out of the box and gave it a mini service!
I greased the hubs even though there was still quite a bit left!
The tyres pumped up ok and are a bit out of shape but dont look perished but I think I will change them anyway.
I took it for a pedal around the block and all wasok.
I will definately bring it some runs,it fits in the back of the car fine.
I will contact Adam r.e. battery & top.
Has he got an email address or is he only contactable by phone?
Cheers

Adams details are on the friends of c5alive link, he doesn't list an email address so you will need to phone, text or send a letter to contact him.
He is a top bloke, and usually pretty quick via text :)
You wont have any problems 8)

Depending on how your C5 is set up you can use car batteries or a leisure battery, the ones I use are in the "tried & tested" section.
If you are keeping the standard keyswitch arrangement, then the battery most similar to one of Adam's "Sinclair" batteries is a type 038. Keeping the grey battery top unmolested it just about fits, leaving one side slightly raised. You will also need to use battery posts like those sold via the shop.
A leisure battery can still be used with a keyswitch, but it means cutting the grey battery top along its crease, and battery posts are still required.
My preference is for one of our leisure kits though. They replace the temperamental keyswitch assembly and allow use of any battery that fits within the space allowed.Plus they have circuit protection built in that protects your C5 when you connect the battery up the wrong way round.
-
I'll vouch for the leisure kit, I fitted one - Very easy to follow instructions you get lights on/off and all. Also even though its new; a new drivebelt and a motor mod might be of help. I fitted them to mine and have not had any problems at all.

Pete, do you still need a boot clip ?
-
Hi Umpa,
No I do not need a boot clip anymore.
After retracing my route twice looking for it I found it the next day....on my garage floor!

glad to hear you found it,
So how's the machine performing now you have had it a bit ?
-
To tell you the truth I have only been out on it once and that was its maiden voyage!
I have too many other "toys" to play with!
I will try and go for a spin this weekend.
Cheers

I DO!!! Did your boot fall off a lot before the clips were put on? How much do you want for them?
Thanks

Boot clips are probably a good thing, but I dont consider them as essential. I seem to get by without them most of the time... although my boot fell off once on one of the Crawley meetings. I put that down to the fact it was loaded with spares at the time.
-
Do having boot clips stop any of the chattering from the boot and does it make the final apperence any better by bringing the arches in a bit ?
Retro Andy
-
I guess it depends on how much you use the boot. I use mine a lot for shopping and the chippy, so I don't want mine falling off.

Not as far as I'm aware. They just stop the boot falling off. Which in my case is essential.
