Main battery cables
« on: 01, April, 2011 - 14:16:31 »
Would anyone know what spec - size / amperage rating the main battery cables are? I mean the thick brown & blue ones. I need to extend mine after a previous owner has butchered them and I want to add a new key switch / battery isolator in-line with the positive wire.

This is how I was thinking of wiring it up (apologies for the crude artwork!):

Do you think this would be a reasonable way of doing it?

Thanks  :)

Hi Chris,

You need to use a minimum of a 2.5mm Tri-rated cable (its multistranded cable - max 30A) however I have used a 4mm Tri-rated cable (max 41A). Also 0.5mm (11A). You can get it from Control panel manufactures. If you are stuggling I do have some red & blue (To match the quick release terminals I used when I made my own safety harness), just cover my postage costs if you have no other alternatives.

thanks Lance

Cheers Lance,
I've just ordered a couple of lengths of 4.0MM. All I need now is some heat shrink sleeving and a battery isolator switch.  :)
Do you think my diagram above would be a suitable way of wiring it up?
