Friday 6th may 2011 (note: new date is Sat 14th May)
http://www.aeracing.org/
....we're planning to attend with "Challenger" and also unleash the improved C-5000 ;D.
More details to follow nearer the time 8)

Retro Andy.
..you might not need to book time off, I've had an email from the organiser saying they hope to shift the event to a weekend date as that way more people will come.
Watch this space for any updates ;)
-
Note ; The date for this event has been changed to;
Saturday 14th May 2011
-
Now Matt will be a happy chappy :) :)
-
Being my birthday that day I could well come along, but will have to see what the better half has got anything planned.

I've had an email from the AER organisers;
Dear Alternative Energy Supporter,
Santa Pod’s very own Alternative Energy Racing event will shortly enter its fourth year with the confirmation of its 2011 date – Saturday 14 May. Due to its growth and ongoing support it will be held on an exclusive weekend day, which in turn will further expand the event to wider audiences and competitors. Numbers in 2010 reached over 30 entries with spectators in the thousands so in 2011 we should be able to hit over 40 entries and 5000 spectators.
As you in the past have expressed an interest in entering a vehicle into the event, or simply attending with a trade stand show casing your vehicle we would like to offer you the first free entries and free trade space! This is open to companies, individuals, universities, colleges and clubs, and all types of vehicles are welcome, provided they are powered by energy that can be produced in a sustainable manner. That could include biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas, electric, hydrogen, compressed gas, and even synthesised fuels.
It’s a great opportunity to promote your vehicle and products either with a live or static display and show that motoring is becoming more environmentally friendly, that your technology really works and that it has a viable place in modern society.
If you want to take part, please reply to this email with the following information:
• Team/Company name
• Vehicle details (E.g. 2003 Volkswagen Golf TDI using 100% pure vegetable oil as fuel with minor fuelling modifications)
• Team/Company website
• Contact name, email address and phone number
• An image of vehicle to be used
• Team/Company logo
• Paddock/Trade space required
• Any other additional requirements, notes or questions
The racing on the day takes the form of Drag Racing: whoever can clock the quickest time over a quarter mile from a standing start is declared the winner. There will be three titles contested in 2011, Fastest Zero Emission Vehicles, Fastest Alternative Fuel Vehicle and a judges choice of Most Environmentally Friendly.
Please visit our web site www.aeracing.org for full details and information, in the meantime I look forward to hearing from you and together making AER 2011 a huge success!
Kind regards,
Chris Dredge

Once Christmas is out of the way I'll start putting a "Team c5alive" reply together 8)
-
Yeah looking forward to it - hope to have a modified Goldfinger for this one - can't say too much Matt always watching ....................
-
If you want to take your own c5 onto the famous Santa Pod drag strip, then you will need to register with Chris via the contact form and email to the address below ;
chris@santapod.com
contact form: http://www.aeracing.org/contact.php
Upload a piccie (don't forget to register as part of teamC5alive) and you'll see yourself on the A.E.R website as part of the publicity campaign 8).
ElectricDave is taking the c-5000 along, I'll be there with "Challenger" and we'll be staying overnight Friday into Saturday. Hope a few of you will be joining us ;D
-
i'm hoping i can come to this event but it depends how far away santa pod is and whether my dad can take me+c5 down there. a couple of questions though:
1. can only modified c5s come?
2. does it cost any money to come?

You would be most welcome to join in. It is free for "Competitors" but you must register before attending. Standard C5's are also eligible to participate - Ray and Radiomarty took part last year using 12v c5's.
-
Grrr. Really not happy about this. I wanted to bring my C5 down and probably even register for a run on the strip but I can't get that day off work >:(
Oh well, there's always next year.
C.
-
Reminder : if you want to take your c5 down the drag strip you'll need to register very soon, not long until this event takes place :).
So far it only looks as though myself and ElectricDave are taking part ....
-
i'm afraid this is too far for me :-[
-
Just filled in the registration form, see you all there .....
John

Aiming to come along to this but just to watch ;D
Daz

Form submitted !!! :)

Daz
Looks like Daz will be leading the c5alive cheer leaders ;D
Nice to see a few more c5's coming along - cheers guys 8)
-
Don't mind cheerleading, but i'm leaving the outfit and pom poms at home ;) :D
-
We've made it onto the the AER entry list - now to get Mrs Radiomarty to hurtle down the drag strip ..................... Sadly due to funds i don't think the Goldfinger upgrade will be ready in time so we will have to run it as standard but we will set the pace for the awesome Mr Electric Dave !!!! :)
-
Entry form handed in.. just a matter of time...
See you all there!
-
Not heard anything here :'( :'( :'( :'(
I will send mine again, fingers crossed this time ..

I will send mine again, fingers crossed this time ..
Steve has registered now as well, the organising of this event has been handed over from Chris to a gent called Rick Cuthbert so there might be a delay in the website being updated.
I'll be phoning them on Monday to confirm a few other details so I'll mention the entry list as well.
-
AHHHH this time next week :D ;D
tis going to be awesome!!!
-
Wish I could have got the day of work for this...
Not jealous at all! >:(

-
I spoke with Rick today, who sends his apologies for the delay in responding to the emails we've sent earlier. He has been busy sorting out a recent VW meet at Santa Pod.
Those who have registered, but not yet shown on the AER website, shouldn't worry as he says it will be updated soon and a confirmation email will follow.
I had hoped to camp overnight at the venue from Friday into Saturday but the site will be closed for that evening. This means I will have to alter my plans to setting off early Saturday morning instead.
Just got to finish off prepping "Challenger" then charging up all the batteries, load the car etc etc and we'll nearly be ready ;D
See you there 8)
-
Does anyone know what time members of the public can turn up ?
*Edit* Just found the info on the santa pod site. Gates open 8am and only £5.00 entry ( and free for Riley whose coming with me ;D ).
I'll aim to get there between 9.00 and 10.00 , looking forward to seeing all you guys burning rubber down the black stuff ;D
Unless it's tipping it down and then i'm staying in bed a bit longer :D :D
Daz
-
Just had my confirm by email from Rick.
Karl, will liaise with you as per our phone call :)
-
Still waiting for mine !! :'(
I have sent mine in twice now and still nothing...... :-[
-
Do any of you now when you'll be going down the strip ?
Have you got an allotted time or is it like the usual strip days where you just line up and have several runs ?
Daz
-
Still waiting for mine !! :'(
I have sent mine in twice now and still nothing...... :-[
John I've just emailed Rick on your behalf to check! Team c5alive needs Plod :)
-
The good news is I've spoken with the organiser (see earlier posting) and the promised emails have arrived , the bad news is that Plod has been left off the list :o . No worries though Plod, I'll add your details to the confirmation email I'll be sending back tonight 8)
Here is a copy of the email giving the programme of events ;
Dear All,
Thank you very much for your support of Alternative Energy Racing at Santa Pod Raceway. This year’s event is all set to be another great day at the Pod, but there are a few changes that should hopefully make this event another step better and more interesting.
The first thing to mention is that AE Racing is no longer on a Friday, and is now on a “Run What Ya Brung” Saturday. AE Racing is no longer sharing a weekend with the Volkswagen show it previously did… but it’s great to see there are still plenty of Volkswagens involved, so thanks for sticking with us guys! The track will be open to other (non-AER) vehicles taking part in the “Run What Ya Brung” day, but AER will have it’s own paddock and race classes.
The 2011 entrants are listed on this web-page here: http://aeracing.org/entry2011.php
Tickets
Each entry listed will have three entry tickets allocated per vehicle unless agreed otherwise. Feel free to email me to check what tickets I have against your name. It will be much easier to sort this out now rather than on the day, so please check your tickets if you are unsure.
Tickets will be held under the driver’s name, and will be available to collect at the gate on arrival.
Tickets are also valid for camping on Sat night if you wish to do so, but be aware that there is a large performance car event on the following day, so don’t expect much of a lie-in!
Arrival
The gates to Santa Pod Raceway will be open at around 8am on Saturday, and you are welcome to arrive from then onwards. There is no rush, the track itself will not likely open until 10am, but you are welcome to arrive early is you want to get set up and ready.
Collect your tickets at the gate on arrival.
The pits will be located near the startline, ask site marshals/staff for directions to the AE Racing pits. Please park up considerately and move any trailers/crew vehicles to the nearby grass area.
Sign On
Please visit the sign-on office once you are pitted. You need to do this to be able to use the track. Sign-on is free for all registered entrants, and you will need to show your DVLA driving licence to the sign-on staff, so please DO NOT FORGET IT.
Sessions
Although the track is open all day and you are welcome to run whenever you are ready, I am planning to run sessions at the following times:
1230h, 1430h, 1530h, 1630h, 1730h
I will ask racers to kindly be ready to run at these times and wait in the staging lanes a few minutes before the times above and get paired up with whoever they want to race against. This will create a nice spectacle where all vehicles run together and the commentators can announce what is happening instead of getting lost in the general Run What Ya Brung.
Timing and Winners
Trophies will be presented at 6pm on the track startline for the fastest alt fuel and electric vehicle over the ¼ mile. Slower vehicles can also be timed over the 1/8th mile, and I will work out a system for informing the timing crew to switch the timing system over.
Handling Track
There will also be a tight handling track available that is timed, but no trophies available. This is free to enter and will be open from midday until 1700h.
Food, Drink & Catering
There will be a full range of catering open at the event. Please bring some cash.
Electric Supply
I have been promised a powerful generator for this event to charge electric vehicles. This should provide a good 3-phase and 13amp supply, but I would appreciate it if all electric vehicle entrants could bring vehicles as fully charged as possible and with as many long extension leads and adaptor plugs as they can get their hands on! Charging is only for vehicles – no computers/mobile phones etc etc etc.
Don’t Forget…
- Driving licence. You need this to sign on to use the track.
- Helmets for open-top vehicles and anything going faster than 110mph over the finish line.
- Helmet, suitable protective clothing (e.g. leathers/synthetic equiv. suit) and gloves for motorcycle riders
- Cycle helmet for cycle-type vehicles travelling at less than 30mph. Motorcycle gear required for anything faster.
I look forward to seeing all your fantastic vehicles very soon! Yours sincerely,
Rick Cuthbert

Please note the part about Driving Licence and protective clothing

Thanks for that Karl, i was getting worried :-\
Look forward to seeing everyone, hope the weather holds off - Just watched the forcast and it says showers over the weekend, Sunday will be the worst, so fingers crossed for Saturday.
John
-
The weather forecast for tomorrow is a bit grim :-[ , despite me specifically requesting the same warm sunny weather as last year !
However, I do know that the c5's run well in the rain coz we've been on a few runs before that have been blessed with liquid sunshine so I've decided to go whatever the weather.
See you there with brollies & waterproofs ;D
Note for Plod - despite what the AER website says at the moment , I can confirm you are on the list .I spoke with Rick via email this afternoon 8)
-
Thanks for that, see you all tomorrow .....
John
-
What time are people here planning to get there / leave?
I want to come but as I said to Karl I don't think I'll manage more than a couple hours :(
-
Hi Mike

Another fantastic day out at Santa Pod - great to see everyone going for it and the crowds loving the C5'S. Massive thank you to Electric Dave for letting me pilot the C5000 reaching 55mph on 24v - cant wait to see it in action when gets up to 48v !!!!! Mrs Radiomarty now has the need for speed and the conversion of our 'stock' C5'S can start with full approval- Loads of great cars to watch and finishing with Team C5alive group outing to watch the Santa Pod jet car in action --- dreams of a 230 mph c5...................Many thanks again to Karl for arranging another great day out in the varied and wacky world of C5Alive :) :)
Great photo's plod :) - our photo's to follow soon ;D

Some excellent piccies there 8)
I think we all had a really excellent day out. The rain held off until the drive home, although it was windy enough to get the gazebo airbourne and cold enough for us to need jumpers and coats - not enough to stop the us enjoying the day though :)
Fastest C5 of the day was the c-5000 running at 24v and reaching 55mph, piloted by the fearless (volunteered in his absence) RadioMarty. Sadly the snags that cropped up at last years BVS electrathon came back to spoil the 48v run so no speed figures available for that. A bit of a disappointment for electricdave , I don't feel he got the rewards for all the effort he put in. I am sure that he will get it sorted and get that 48v upgrade running for the next outing though 8) .His other creations, "Challenger" and "Voodoo" performed without fault despite being thrashed mercilessly by the speed crazed "Mrs Radiomarty" ,Plod , Jordan and rentboyDave making their track debut ;D It was good to see everyone having several runs on each of the "performance" c5's and coming back with the famous "c5 grin". Even happier that they all came back safe and sound :D
The other AER entrants produced some amazing vehicles with impressive performance , and it was nice to meet up with some friends from last years event. The pit area was great fun, with a few people trying out each others creations - all good stuff. Some really talented people are producing some incredible machines.
An added bonus this year was getting to watch the "run what you brung" guys powering down the track. Some seriously impressive kit out there ! But it was the jet car that was obviously by far and away the most awesome vehicle of the day !
Thanks to everyone for coming along and taking part as "teamC5alive" it wouldn't have been as much fun without you all there.

Had a nice day out yesterday. Was god to meet up with people again, and get back into C5 ownership ;D
Enjoyed watching everyone go down the strip, and was great fun listening to the announcers shock that a C5 was doing 55mph :D :D

If anyone wants pics of the day, (the ones available from Blackett photography) anything that went down the strip, you can get them here, at a cost of course.
http://www.blackettphotography.com
Go to gallery, select RWYB 2011, then date and time.
You will need to create an account, but that only takes a few minutes.
This weekend should be uploaded by Tuesday, apparently ;)

The latest update from Rick at A.E.R ;
Dear all,
Thank you one-and-all for putting on a great show at Alternative Energy Racing 2011! This is just a quick email to let you know that the report is now online showing each entrant’s best time. I appreciate that some of the names are incorrect for the actual time set, but as people changed drivers and vehicles I was unable to tell exactly who was driving what on every run, so I used the original entry name against the race number for the purposes of the report. There is also a small formatting error that will be updated shortly, and a picture gallery that will be drastically extended in the next few days.
Once again, a huge thanks for coming along. It was great meeting everyone and their machines, and I have a few ideas I’m planning to bring into effect next year, including a shorter sprint track for cycle-type vehicles that don’t make the full ¼-mile
Stay in touch, and I will get the details for next year’s event out as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Rick Cuthbert

Hey Steve hit the 75mph mark according to Santa Pods results list !!!!
http://aeracing.org/2011report.php
..Rick did say in his email that there were a few errors, bit of a wild guess but Steve's time might be one of them ;D
Assuming the rest of the data is correct then our bunch of c5's did well, "Challenger" being faster than the electric road registered moped and the other c5's being quicker than expected against far more modern technology.
Despite not managing a full run on 48v, the c5000 still managed a 55mph run at 24v which is very impressive stuff. Electricdave is already working on a fix so that the 48v mode will be more reliable.
Bring on the next event ;D

Well worth it, but be warned mate ...once you've tried more power on the drag strip, you'll be wanting to go 24v ;D No-one is immune ,just look at the list of "casualties" so far who are willing to sell their souls ; RadioMarty, Plod , Ray & Scott to name but a few :o :D

I already fancy 24v. Your fault Karl for letting me have a go in challenger :D
Think i'll see how the rest get on with their conversions first before starting on that slippery slope :D
