Newbie with a few questions
« on: 08, March, 2009 - 13:25:18 »
Hello All,

I'm the new proud owner of a C5 which a bought at a auction. General state is very good, don't now if the electronics and motor are functioning. Time will tell. Connecting the battery i ques the brown is the + and blue is the -. I don't know how original the battery is connected because something is missing. This is what comes out of the back.

If i connect battery cables to the end of the copper lips, it will work?
I already bought quick release battery clamps and cable which includes a fuse.
Second question, what do these letters mean? D for drive, P for Park?

And the last question, tire pressure 2.7 is the max. But what is normal used for the tire pressure?

Greetings Erwin.

Hi Man - welcome to the site :)

What you have there is the original ignition block for use with original C5 batteries.  They dont make them any more, so you can either cut the block off and stick some car battery connectors on the wires or fit the c5alive wire kit that gives you on/off and lights on/off.

Your right about the colours - Blue is neg and brows is Pos - DONT CONNECT THEM THE WRONG WAY ARROUND. You cant do that with the original block or the wire kit.

you can get tire perssures and all the info in the documents section here www.sinclairc5.com

mex - a warm welcome to the forum mate, you might want to check out the c5alive download section as well

http://c5alive.co.uk/downloads2.htm

on it you will find the unofficial handbook that will answer a lot of questions  ;)

handbook in pdf format;
http://c5alive.co.uk/pub/downloads/C5-UnofficialServiceManual.pdf

handbook in word format;
http://c5alive.co.uk/pub/downloads/C5-UnofficialServiceManual.doc

plus this thread from a little while back also covers one of your queries;

your picture is of the standard keyswitch assembly, and it looks fairly clean - with just a small amount of corrosion.

If you want to keep the standard set up you could use a grey battery top and a type 038 car battery, or chop up the battery top and fit it to a leisure battery etc. You will need to purchase some conversion posts and a grey battery top for this though, both are available.

Personally, I prefer to adapt my c5's with a c5alive wiring kit - it allows you to use any 12v battery that fits in the footwell and has protection built in that prevents you causing damage if the battery is wrongly connected. You can keep all the standard stuff and convert the c5 back to original for when you choose to sell it.

Have a browse through the forum and see what the others think, topics like this give some idea on what batteries people prefer;
