Rear Tyres ** city-jet tyres now in stock **
« on: 25, April, 2008 - 14:11:16 »
Just so everyone knows, rear tyres are proving difficult to source at the moment. The odd size (16") is not helping, combined with a global shortage of rubber apparently .. :-\

I am in talks with the main UK importer who assures me that some should be arriving...but not until late in May   :(

Inner tubes (front & rear) plus front tyres are not a problem, just the rears.

I will keep you all updated when the situation changes.

If anybody is really desperate for a rear tire before Karl gets them in, a local cycle stall on our market has a few in stock, but unfortunately, he's not cheap at £15 per tire, i can get one, with a receipt and post them on if thats any help?

The Scwalbe tyres are still not available, with a revised delivery date of an additional two weeks..... :-\, to say I am unimpressed is an understatement.

We have found, and placed an order for, a replacement tyre that has a similar tread to the original Sinclair tyres...so when they arrive these will be offered as an alternative.

Who knows, the Scwalbes might eventually arrive and I will be awash with tyres.... :-X

Are these the same as the ones Mark would have supplied ? As i have had problems with the ones i put on, twice on both rear tyres when inflated to 35psi after a short run the inner tube has started to push the tyre off the rim, now both tyres are out of shape and the beading has shreaded, I have only done about twenty miles on these tyres and the first time it happened thought i had'nt fitted them correctly and tryed it again with about 25psi in them, but these seemed to slow the speed down, so after i changed pressures the tyre came off rim and i have now put the tyres of my son's old bike to try. Has anyone else had problems, is it because of my weight ?

Hi Andy,
Sorry that you have had problems with your rear tyres.

SCWALBE CITY-JET TYRES would be my tyre of choice.

The tyres need to be fitted correctly!
Particularly care must be taken to insure it is well seated into the wheel.
I fit the tyre and inner tube partially inflate turn the wheel round bouncing it on the ground.
I then go round inspecting the position of the tyre and wheel applying presser to correctly seat it if required.
Now it's time to inflate to the correct pressure and check for the final time.

Fit to your C5 and enjoy.

I personally have fitted the tyres to at least 10 C5’s with no problems.

Hi Martin,

I have taken care when fitting and inflating tyres, the tyres i am trying off my son's old bike seem a lot tighter fitting and sit in rim, so I wondered if they were out of shape slightly from the start ?
I will let you know how i get on and then try another set of tyres from c5 alive, I must sort this before the royal run.

Andy - I must admit I am very surprised to hear you are having problems with the city-jets. I've had them on Voodoo for over a year now and they have been superb. Most of the C5's on last years London-Brighton run also had them fitted, so they have been well tested. Also,I wouldnt have made so much effort in obtaining them if I had any doubts over their quality.

SCWALBE CITY-JET TYRES
The first time I fitted one of these tyres it gave the impression that it would not fit the C5 rim.
I then deflated the tube and took time to reseat the tyre and all was O/K.
The tyres are larger in road surface area than many kid's bike tyres this is one of the things that make then so good.
Also the tyres low rolling resistance.

If all fails we can always fit a set prior to the Royal Run. ;)

Looking forward to the meeting. :)
