If the original tubing is gone you can also fix the cable loom with those self adhesive tie-wrap-holder pads (and tie-wraps of course...).

Hi Chas,

The body looks great, what do you use to get it looking that good other than elbow grease? I've been restoring my C5 but I have been putting off the job of body cleaning! Should I leave the wiring loom on or take it off?

Title: Re: Latest restoration for Mark
Post by: C5 ENTHUSIAST + RESTORER on 15, August, 2013 - 08:11:15
Hi there Paul regarding the wiring loom I always leave it in place unless the body is going to be left outside in the rain .. Also it is always best to check out the wiring before rebuilding as I will be doing today ..If you don't you may find that there could be a break in the wiring loom and it is very hard to to find and repair it after the chassis has been fitted ...The cleaning elbow grease is the best with Cif cream...

Hi Chas

Interesting that you say you leave the wiring in place.

At some point I plan on stripping mine down to the chassis to paint up but was hoping there was a way of doing it by leaving as much of the wiring in place as possible. Well disturbing the least amount of items.

Is there a simple way to remove everything?  Can the control box, indicators front light pod etc be just left in place?

Simon

Hi you can leave all the wiring and the items you have asked about .But I would take of the Pod and control box off if you are going to hose it down unless you seal them in  plastic bags ..The reason I now leave the wiring in place and test it before build up is that in the past I have had problems with the pod wiring and it was very hard to change it with the chassis in place ..
Any way I checked out the wiring today and had a few problems ....First of all the control box was damaged due to the some of the track  burnt out .Secondly the indicator switch wires needed re newing  as they would not flash ...Any way a new control box fitted and switch wires fitted now all working But it will need a good run to make sure all is ok ...

Checked out the wiring found that the control box was damaged .(the track was burnt out out ) Changed it for a working one now everthing seems to be ok But It will need to be checked out with a good run when compleaterd ...

Thank you very much for this Chas.  My C5 is very clean so won't need hosing.  This makes the task of cleaning up the chassis much less daunting.

Ok great ..Here how I got on today ..Starting with the Chassis that I started yesterday ..

New tyres /brake cables/bearings Chain tenisioner

As you can see I have fitted a motor and the large drive cog ,But what you cannot see is that I have fitted a 12 tooth cog on the motor and  the large drive cog has 72 teeth instead of 68 ..So what happens is that it will only drive at aprox 6/7 MPH ...But it will need to be taken out for a good run when completed .This is just a temperry thing to see if the C5 will go slow enough and the power will be more for  Mhurt
